Going from three vessel propane to Electric All in one

To answer your questions I'm as technical as I can be with my system I like all stages of the brew day (except clean up!) LoDo?? My recipes are both. Probably 65/35 Singe/Step I'm fairly varied with my styles. I tend to favor Belgians and European Lagers, but also do a variety of ales (IPA...

    Equipment crossroads.

I currently have a three vessel, low tech (gravity fed, coolers for mash and sparge) propane system. Couple years ago upgraded to 15 gallon Spike kettle, which works great and gives flexibility. Have been brewing on this system for 5.5 years, nothing wrong with it, but would like more precision...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Westvleteren 12 Clone - Multiple Award Winner

I too use Pilsner, pale, Candi syrup and WLP530. I also add a spot of Special B. Seem to get the Belgiany aroma and taste on my quads

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Westvleteren 12 Clone - Multiple Award Winner

Right before Christmas, I hosted a Belgian quad tasting event with 3 other home brewers. We had a blind tasting, and judged each sample. Lined up best on the left to right. 9 (un-labeled bottles) of the 12 Quads were home-brews. My brews placed #2, #3, #5, #7 and #9. See pic. Good times. I...

    Munich Helles yeast suggestions

My first Munich Helles I made with WLP838 and it game out good. I have scored some WLP860 and I plan to use that for the next one - anyone have experience with that. I'd also like to save the yeast from that batch and make a second beer using it. Any suggestions?

Who’s still brewing Belgian-style ales and what’s your favorite recipe?

Typically my Trippels mature a bit faster, so if starting at the beginning, I'd do Quad - Dubbel - Triple - Single. In any case would like to hear how yours turned out!

Smell remains after cleaning steel fermenter

Typically anywhere from 1-8 weeks (since I have 2 steel fermenters). So you take a dry paper towel, fold it, then clamp down the lid of fermenter?

Smell remains after cleaning steel fermenter

I do a fairly thorough clean of my steel fermenter after fermentation. Scrub it out, soak in hot PBW, rinse in hot water, sanitize with StarSan. Looks good and smells good. Then I put it away (in a clean, dry pantry closet). After x weeks, I will take it out for brew day. When I pop the...

@dperrigan Thanks for your post. Would like to know how the beer truly finished and the taste. Of course it's still a young beer for a while!
