    Mistake? has to be

in the the yeasty battle, I'd place my bets on the lager. I'd drop the temp to 55* then to mid 40*s once they took off! i haven't used notty but I'm pretty sure that would level the playing field.

    Welder purchase

Not sure if you have any other projects or plans with the welder but as a career welder I would advise to get a dc 220 type stick welder, tig torch/hose, regulator, and lease a bottle of argon. Dc neg on the stick will give you a good scratch start tig weld for carbon and stainless steel. Not...

racking a lager while still fermenting

I have 2gal of oktoberfest slowly bubbling in my cellar. I went with 2 gal simply b/c I didn't have time in advance for a starter and figured 2 gal would be more like an oversized starter and give me some yeast for some 5 gal batches I want to brew. Problem is I was planning to brew tomorrow but...

    secondary temps for ales

I live in Nebraska, lol. Wouldn't mind a couple carboys lagering down there at all. I have my first octoberfest down there right now, haven't had the place all that long so lagers are new to me but from now on thats about all I'm gonna do if I can find my flavor that is. Seems so much more...

    secondary temps for ales

I have a cellar under my basement that stays nice and cool (52-55*f) and was wondering if it would be ok to put the carboys of ales down there after theyr'e done in the primary? How would that effect the yeast and flavor?

    Transition to a Full Boil

have you looked at the boxes of copper that comes in a roll? Thats what I got. Its allready rolled. Just take it out of the box set it in your kettle pull the two ends up and bend them over the side of the kettle and clamp a couple clear hoses on them with a portable dishwasher end on one hose...

how much can I move/shake the primary

Good idea on the condoms, they really are lifesavers. I ended up boiling a few cups of dme and adding it before I left. I stopped for a bathroom break about a 100 miles into the trip and both were bubblin really well. I don't think this is gonna be a big deal. If it does taste like crap I'll...

how much can I move/shake the primary

I'll have to get some of that for the future if this ever happens again. I live in a rural area and the nearest shop is about a 4hr round trip so I'm not going to be able to do that on this one. Is adding boiled dme going to give me satisfactory results? I can boil it now and add it before I...

how much can I move/shake the primary

I need to leave tonight and yeah its about done fermenting. I won't be back until December so my options are pretty much limited. What would happen if I took the beer and a pound of dme, once I'm there boil the dme cool it and dump it in. Would that reactivate the yeast to remove the oxygen? I...

how much can I move/shake the primary

I'm a traveling boilermaker and I was intending to be home for a couple months but today I got a call that I need to work about 300 miles away. I just brewed 10 gal last friday night and I was wondering how harmfull it would be to put it in my fifth wheel camper and go, then continue as normal...
