Easy Stove-Top Pasteurizing - With Pics

The Sous Vide quote is here: I too use sous vide for cooking. I'm curious as to how big of a container is needed for this. I sometimes do batches of 2 cases (5 gallon). Have to figure out how to rig the anova into a big cooler. Leaving it for a couple hours (minimum) would be my suggestion...

Pitching on a yeast cake from a 1 gallon cider batch

I did pitch this on the yeast cake from a 1 gallon batch. Seems to be bubbling away happily. Thanks for the responses! Also did a cranberry at the same time. I didn't save the cake from the 1 gallon batch, so I pitched a new package of Lalvin EC1118. Bubbles are the same rate as the apple, but...

Pitching on a yeast cake from a 1 gallon cider batch

Just racked and bottled a 1 gallon batch of hard cider. The yeast cake from this is much much smaller than the one from a batch of beer. I know you can pitch onto a yeast cake from beer, but what about from cider? Also, I'm looking at making a 5 gallon batch this time. Can I pitch the yeast...

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

Third at the Iowa State Fair. Brewed it according to instructions, but should have fermented higher. Highly recommended!

    What are your favorite fermenters?

The spigot on mine takes a standard 90 degree pvc elbow, just screws on. I only have about 4 oz left at the bottom of the bucket after bottling.

Easy Stove-Top Pasteurizing - With Pics

No one needs to know this method works, but it's very easy. Using a big pressure canner, left the gasket out, fill the water to the neck of 10 bottles, and go to town. Long time to get to 180-190, but 10 bottles for 10 mins brings the temp down to the mid 160s. 10 mins to recharge back to...

    Refractometers decisions

Isn't the one I see on Amazon the same refractometer for $21.99? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW2ZU6R/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Using a cooler bigger than you need for a mash

I would think part of the decision would be how much deadspace is there? Might not be worth a 1.5 gallon batch in the big one if the waste is .75 gals or more.

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Just curious, did the mold from the shower curtain give you any off flavors? Or did the sawdust and poison ivy counteract that?

Batch sparge vs. fly sparge, efficiency hit

I've wondered if a second sparge would increase efficiency, and that graph seems to lend credence to that. Think you can just split the sparge, or do you need to divide the 3 (primary, sparge and sparge2)?
