It's more of a question of does this style of beer benefit from sitting in my fermenter any longer. I'm not going to have an IPA sitting much longer than a couple of weeks, as an example, but am wondering if given the style of this beer does it benefit from more time in fermentor. I am guessing...
Any reason to ferment much more than two weeks on this? More a question on the style as I haven't brewed anything similar to this point. Am at day 15 and thinking of kegging in the next day or two.
Mine has been sitting in secondary since September 27, 2015. I pitched both at the beginning of fermentation because it is supposed to provide a higher level of sour. I feel the beer is finally starting to develop. The aroma is definitely what I would expect. I think there a subtle tartness to...
For sure. Yesterday I flipped it like other people have so the rubber cap is against the probe. Will definitely be careful to not touch it at all when stirring for a whirlpool.
Thanks! I have a hop spider, and I think I've used it once with the GF. Much rather not use it if I can get away with it. Have yet to whirlpool and will do that on the next batch.
Did a bit of searching and this may very well be in the massive thread somewhere but didn't see it.
After my boil I turned the pump on to recirculate for 10 minutes to sanitize the chiller. Heard some air going into the wort and then it plugged. Could see a chunk of stuff in the clear tubing...
I acknowledge this is probably a completely stupid question but my home brewer paranoia is kicking in. I use RO water I buy from a water store in sealed 5 gallons container. Fill your own jugs kind of place. For various reasons I haven't been able to brew when I expected to so by the time I use...
Thanks! At the time I knew better about leaving it in the basement but thought oh well it's going to be sitting around forever so whatever. Think in the end I maybe just delayed getting to the end point of it being done. Maybe it will just have to sit longer. Either way I am looking forward to...
Glad to hear it worked out! I did my batch this past September too. It's still sitting in secondary in the basement. I think that I'll leave it until at least it gets to the one year mark. It was in the basement over the winter and I think it was too cool down there and maybe slowed activity way...
Thanks! Have only done one batch on the GF. My approach on the next batch will be exactly what you describe. First one was according to the instructions and I'm pretty sure my recirculation was not ideal.
There are a couple of groups on Facebook (North American Grainfather Users Group and Grainfather Users Group) and a fellow named Nick who appears to work for the Imake is a member of the North American group (and I assume the other too). Seems like a reasonable guy and if you are a member of...
