Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

tmmore52 Just because there are no visible signs of fermentation does not mean fermentation has stopped. Take gravity readings once every 3 days until the gravity stops changing. If it's not where you intended it to be, you can rouse up the yeast by sanitizing a ladle and stirring the wort...

Regarding plastic carboys and those expensive spigots

Have you tried taking the bottle to a water supply store and have them install a spigot for you? I did this with my Arrowhead containers for my first bacth of brew-it was $5 for each installation, and just like that, I had two carboys ready to go (wasn't worried about oxidation for my first...

    How Do I Get Started?

Thanks for the advice. I have no clue what biphenol b is or that it was even present in my sparklets water....so, if I'm already drinking biphenol b, I'm not gonna mind it being present in whatever beer I brew! (unless it screws up the flavor....?)

    How Do I Get Started?

Hi, my name is John. I'm in the process of collecting material to start brewing from home. I'm on a budget and I can't buy a kit at the moment. I'm brainstorming on what will work as a fermentor/carboy and I've decided I'm gonna try using the plastic 5-gallon Sparklets jugs I get my drinking...
