Dried Voss (kveik in general) is amazing

I love Kveik Voss. Where I live has really hot summers, so it's become my summer yeast, but I'll use it all year round. I guess it was bred with such extreme conditions that it can handle whatever we subject it to without much hassle - true viking yeast. I mainly use it for IPAs and pale ales...

    Pressure fermenting with Kveik Voss

Thanks for sharing that chart. It's very helpful. I have a spunding valve on my fermenter like this: My plan is to increase the pressure once the fermentation is finishing up then force the sediment out of the bottom.

    Pressure fermenting with Kveik Voss

I'm making a pale ale with Kveik Voss and someone suggested fermenting under pressure to make the beer clearer and provide carbonation, so this is my first time to give it a try. I pitched the yeast this evening at 9:30pm with my tank's cooler set to 20-24°c and the pressure valve set to 0.4...

How many of you guys aerate with an oxygen tank?

I was looking into getting an aquarium pump for oxygenation, but I was worried that it would be too difficult to clean/sanitise. In the end, I just got a food-grade stainless-steel paint-mixer and use that to aerate wort from 20L to 120L batches.

Converting garage into brewery in China

I finished brewing my second batch of beer yesterday. The first batch was a simple pale ale for pickling and I had to pour it all away 😥But for the 2nd batch, I've made a brown ale. The pump that moves liquid around the kettle was a lot stronger than I realised. When it came time to empty the...

Converting garage into brewery in China

I used my electric grain mill for the first time yesterday and wasn't prepared for the amount of dust it produced. I just wrapped it in a big bin bag to contain it. I've been using a hand-crank grain mill up until now, which produces some dust, but no way near as much. It's definitely worth...

Converting garage into brewery in China

Thanks, I wasn't aware of passivating or pickling, so I'll definitely do that. I was just going to wash everything with PBW and then sanitise. This garage is owned by my in-laws. It was just being used for storing construction supplies before I got it and converted it. So rent's very low. I'm...

Converting garage into brewery in China

Thanks! I'm going to try brewing an American IPA with Voss kveik. I finally managed to unpack all the equipment so hopefully I can start brewing this weekend. I just need to sort out the electricity connection and figure out how it all works!

What was your first beer… ever?

Foster's, a terrible beer, when I was about 15-16. I only experienced mass-market lagers like that at first (Stella, Carling, Carlsberg, etc.), so my opinion of beer wasn't very high. But then I went to Leuven in Belgium for a trip during uni and was able to try Stella in its hometown (much...

Converting garage into brewery in China

I've nearly finished the renovation. I tiled the walls and floor of the brew room. I just need to install an extractor fan and some other minor stuff. I got is a stand-alone 120L BIAB system - it has a big brewing kettle with a bucket for the grain that can be winched out. And then two 120L...

First time using Kveik and iSpindel

Thanks for the link. I did let it sit in the fermenter for 13 days, and it only took 2 days for it to reach FG. I had a small taste of the ale when I bottled it, which was at 24'c, and that was slightly more sour with some tropical fruit flavours. I hoped that the tropical fruit would stay and...

First time using Kveik and iSpindel

I tried it today and I also got a citrus flavour at first, but after a few sips I didn't notice it as much. I'm planning to use Voss Kveik with an IPA in my next brew. I'll reduce the fermentation temp and aim for 25-28'c and see whether that reduces the acidity.

First time using Kveik and iSpindel

I'm using Kveik Voss for the first time to make a blond ale. I bought a sachet towards the end of last summer but, just as I was about to use it, the weather suddenly got cold for autumn (we have crazy temperature swings where I live) so I decided to save it. The weather got really hot...

Converting garage into brewery in China

The second one looks great, but may be a bit above my level. The first one seems ideal though. Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Converting garage into brewery in China

Hi all, I'm going to convert a garage into a brewery and could use some advice. The garage is ground-level with doors at either end. It was previously being rented out to some people for storing construction materials, so I need to add new flooring (tiled) do something to the walls (I've been...
