Fermenting a wine with Belgian yeast

Keep us updated, i'm super interested in how this works out. The brewing network did a show a while ago where they talked about using wine yeast in beer. It would be neat to see how it goes the other way around.

Using Grains in a Coopers kit.

You'll definitely need to boil the wort after you mash, just to make sure it's sanitized. I think you could do a short boil though, say fifteen minutes. Also I wouldn't worry about adding any extra hops; think of it this way, you're not putting any hops in with the DME or dextrose, so why would...

    Pumpkin ale boiling pumpkin question

I recently made a pumpkin beer with my wife. I wanted to put the pumpkin in the mash, she wanted to put the pumpkin in the boil. So we compromised, and did both. We put a pound of canned pumpkin in the mash, and it stuck like crazy. So we stirred in some rice hulls and everything was ok. Then we...

    Stuck Sparge EMERGENCY

I was in this same exact situation a few weeks ago. I ran to the LHBS and got there ten minutes after they closed! luckily the owner saw me outside and took pity. I got two pounds of rice hulls, mixed 'em in, and everything was smooth sailing after that. From now on anytime i do a beer that may...

    Freezing, bottling already carbed eisbock

I realize this is an old thread, but i just wanted to refute this myth. Freeze concentrating homebrew is in fact legal. The feb. 20, 2009 episode of basic brewing video has the pertinent information, but according to the TTB it's ok.

Any ideas for big batches on kitchen stove?

I've got an enamel canning pot that i picked up second hand. It holds seven gallons and sets across two burners. Unfortunately, i'm not sure where you could get one of these new; but, at least you know they're out there!

Broken refrigerator for a ferm chamber?

It's probably a long shot, but it's possible that the fridge isn't staying cool enough for food due to coils freezing up and not properly defrosting. If that is the case it would be perfect for a fermentation chamber. How old is the fridge?

    Harvesting yeast - how to?

I've been re-using my yeast for the last few batches. I'm not sure if I'm doing this 'correctly' or not, but so far it's worked out well. Here's what i've been doing: 1. brew beer 2. when I rack off the beer, i get as much as possible off, then stir it all up and dump it into a one-liter...

I got the idea, and recipe from basicbrewing.com. if you go here, and scroll down to the bottom, you'll see a link to the video. I thought it would be fun to try a small batch, just to see if I enjoyed the whole process. Now that I've tried it out I plan to get a starter kit from my HBS and...
