Space efficient fermentation chamber for an apartment?

In my experience, buckets don't fit well in a mini fridge due to the compressor hump in the back. I have 3 fermenters (Better Bottle, bucket, and a wide mouth), and only the bucket does not fit anymore. I would suggest looking for a fridge that does not have a freezer section. The "freezer" is...

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

Thanks for the replies and the picture brewasbtd. Looks like I'll be making a home depot run this week to see what I can peice together.

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

Sorry to bump this thread, but I had a question for those who have had experience creating a pigtail converter to plug the IC3500 into their existing appliance outlets. I currently brew in an apartment that I rent, so I do not want to make any permanent changes to the electrical configuration...

    More exBEERiments regarding temp control?

I think some people would be surprised to see how far off their calibrations are for their temperature probes. Even if you are calibrating in a bath of ice water, the temperature can only be certain to be 32F AT the interface of ice and water. Everywhere else there can be a temperature gradient...

Calling all math nerds: Calculating volume dispensed by pressure?

It's not pressure that you would measure, but mass that you would need to measure in this case. You would need to declare the pressure you are serving at then, let's say 13 psi. Then you can calculate the density of the CO2 using a lookup table, or in my case, a software package. In my analysis...

Pre Built STC-1000 from a vendor?

@mcgimpkins, sorry for the confusion, I was in fact talking about the itc-308. I'm sure they have fixed all models by now, but I just mentioned it because if one has electrical know-how, it might be worth checking your unit just to be safe. I don't mean to scare anyone away from it though. It's...

Pre Built STC-1000 from a vendor?

Temperature controllers do not work like that. They simply turn a power socket on or off, depending on the temperature it reads. They can be used on any fridge you might have. There is a longer thread somewhere here where people discuss it further, but I can't link it because I'm on mobile...

    mini fridge modification

Have you tried pulling the temperature control dial off? Maybe that will give you a view of the inside, so you could slowly chisel away at the housing.

    fermentation temps/bsmt vs ferment chamber

Fermentation off flavors are determined almost entirely within the first 2-3 days after pitching your yeast. After that, temperatures don't matter much, so long as they don't get so cold that the yeast go dormant, or the yeast don't die from 90F+ temperatures. With a mini fridge or chest...

Pre Built STC-1000 from a vendor?

There are a couple users on here that sell stc-1000+ kits. They add more functionality to the stock firmware, but I'm not sure if you're looking for this or just a static controller. http://www.boostbysmith.com/stc1000.html (This one has been out of stock for a while)...

    WL820 problems

Glad to hear it! Did you increase the ferment temp too or only pitch more yeast? If so that's interesting that your vial had no live yeast in it anymore.... Usually at least some of the sugars would have been consumed.

    Existing thermometer

There are several older threads out there that cover this issue as well, if you haven't read through them already. This one, for example, goes on for 4 pages: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=68283 Seeing as how you used a fine mesh screen, you have minimized risk. Additionally, it...

    Lager Octoberfest

The more you lager now, the less sediment you will have to push out through the first few pours in the keg. But regardless, the beer will probably turn out the same, since it will lager while in the keggerator.

    Spots on glass starter...

It's fine. Krausen will form off color specks all over the top, like in the picture linked below.

Thermoelectric Wine Fridge as a Fermentation Chamber?

Yes, it is about the cheapest set it and forget it solution for dual relay. Just plug the controller into the wall, the fridge into the "Cooling" plug on the controller (It will be labeled), and if you use a heater, plug that into the "heating" plug. Finally, feed the temperature sensor in the...
