I use S-05 & 04 90% of the time. I've found with 1.040 beers(or less) using either dry or starter to have the same results on FG. Once I went over 1.050 a starter was required.
I usually transfer the beer off the trub to secondary first, but put the nibs or syrups in first at the bottom. Both Mosher and Palmer I believe say to add mostly to secondary, Mosher for sure. Wouldn't syrups (that are heavy) just sink to the bottom on top of the trub. Trying going to...

Since I'm using the stick-on fermometers, could the temp at the core of fermentor actually be hotter?
