    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just an update on my last posting about my 5 gal batch that was started back in October. It tastes amazing now! Hooray! I've been converted. Thanks for all the help along the way everyone.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Okay, so after roughly 3 months I've finally tried my first 5 gallon batch. Tasted a little dry. The apple flavor was gone from the apple juice. I didn't really detect any alcohol. Could this be because I sipped only a bit? I will have more next time I get a chance. Just wondering what...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I know it says that in recipe, I'm just talking from personal experience and my own preferences.

Using any yeast other than bakers yeast will greatly improve the flavor of your mead. Instead of getting a bread like taste, from the baking yeast you will get something more wine or mead like.

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I started one over the summer and waited until just a few days ago to move to another carboy for racking. Everything had dropped out, including the last few raisins! The color was a beautiful golden honey hue and it looked amazing. I also had another batch that was started over the summer and...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Hey, I seem to be getting an almost vinegar like smell from my fermentation. Also there are no bubbles coming from my airlock. This is very interesting. I have never used a 5 gallon bucket before. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, I sanitized everything using some unscented bleach and...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just started 5 gallons yesterday. I found the corn sugar at my LHBS. Thanks for all the help everyone! How about using variations of different yeasts to produce different flavors and ABV?

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Awesome! Did you just use the original recipe? Or did you modify it to make it your own?

Nope, no need to triple the yeast. 5g or one packet is good enough for 5 gallons. If you triple the yeast it will make tit ferment faster, but we are talking almost minutes or seconds off the final time of about 2ish weeks. Good luck! Keep us posted with your progress!

    Johnny Jump Up Cider

This sounds outstanding! Any thoughts on substituting different sugars and their effect on the overall flavor? I'm still very new to brewing and I would like all the information I can get. Thanks! This sounds like a blast.

    O Hard Cider

I'm thinking about giving this one a go. I was wondering if you had any information on how it tasted and how it is keeping?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I'm just about ready to brew up my first batch of this wonderful looking recipe. I was wondering if anyone had any complaints of using regular granulated sugar instead of Dextrose? How will this impact my brewing? Also, anyone thought about using a different yeast to get more ABV or a little...

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out!

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Yeah, I was reading about it earlier. The pectin in the pears clouds up the final product. Thanks for the help!
