    Ale Pail Question

I'm going to kick the lid's ass tonight and hope it snaps. I've been gentle with it up until this point.

    Ale Pail Question

I know it is typically fine to leave the lid unsnapped for primary fermentation, as the CO2 will push out any bugs. However, I plan on leaving the beer in the Ale Pail for three weeks, and skipping secondary. My lid seems not to want to seal or snap down, so it is just resting on the bucket. Am...

    AHS Dry Stout Kit

Brewed this up last night. Took a little longer than I thought due to the stove being not-so-powerful, but wort smelled and tasted alright. I am doing the primary in an ale pail with the lid placed on, not snapped. Question: Is it plausible to leave the lid unsnapped for 3-4 weeks, as I'm...

    AHS Dry Stout Kit

Hello All, I've been a lurker for a long time now, just getting back into homebrewing. I'm starting with extracts again, and bought a AHS Dry Stout Kit (DME). I plan on doing a 2 - 2.5 gallon boil, with only about 1# of DME boiling for the full sixty minutes. The rest (5#) I will add at...

    Brewing 1st Batch Tomorrow

I just bottled this last night. Wort tastes pretty good (for being wort), and as such I think I might give this a try earlier than I anticipated, maybe a month.

    Brewing 1st Batch Tomorrow

Brewing steady, but the krausen is crazy! Is it ok to punch down every so often? Never brewing beer before, I'm not sure if this will settle or if I will have to stir occasionally.

    Brewing 1st Batch Tomorrow

I ended up going the 5 gallon, loose lid route. Beginning temps were a little cool, but it's starting to get going now I believe. I will be taking a reading tomorrow to make sure. Thanks again!

    Brewing 1st Batch Tomorrow

Hello All, I am brewing a Cooper's Real Ale extract kit (using Light and Amber DME for fermentables) tomorrow, and have a couple questions. First, I am think about just covering my primary (6.5 gallon ale pail) with a clean towel versus the lid. I have done this with wine and got fine...
