    Bru'n water help

OK, some of this spread sheet is starting to make sense now. I do understand the dilution of my existing water and how that will change things. For the profile of a yellow bitter this is what I have (my unmodified ppm / yellow bitter profile ppm) Calcium 58 / 50 , Magnesium 15 / 10 , Sodium 18...

    Bru'n water help

I have been using straight well water. It makes very good dark beers but I've been interested in changing my water profile to better fit IPA's. I just got my results back from Ward Laboratories and have been trying to figure all this out. You are right about the complexity of the spreadsheet...

    Bru'n water help

After you enter your grist into the mash acidification page does this automatically adjust items on the water adjustment page or do I need to manually adjust something? Also there are red boxes in the water dilution profile but the finished water profile is all in green or light yellow. The...

    Minimizing color change during boil

I don't have a complete water profile yet. I tested the total alkalinity with a pool test kit and it is 190 ppm. Is there anything I can do just based on that information. I have read about RA but I don't have all of the info to figure that out yet. Should I modify my brewing water based on...

    Minimizing color change during boil

This particular batch is an IPA. I had late hop additions at 20,10 and 1 with 3 different hop varieties. My pre boil volume was 7.5 and I ended up with 6 gallons as expected. I modify my equipment profile to account for the absorption from the hops so I end up with 5.5 in the primary. My OG...

    Minimizing color change during boil

All grain 12lbs 4oz 2 row 1lb carapils 12oz 15L 8oz honey malt Really nothing dark. Beersmith figured it at 6.2 SRM but it ended up way darker. I know it gets more concentrated but just seems way darker.

    Minimizing color change during boil

Lately I have been trying to make some lighter ales. The wort come out looking perfect after the mash but ends up way darker after a 60 minute boil. Is there a way to minimize this change? Do I have the burner up too high? Its becoming a bit frustrating. I guess I should mention I do 5.5...

    Star San Frustration

I have been using regular Star San for quite awhile. I would say for about the last 8 to 10 batches I have notices what appears to be a thin layer of oil on top of the beer after I transfer to the secondary. There has never been an issue with taste, poor head retention, or anything else. It...

    IIPA dry hopping?

The Teflon tape sounds like a good idea. Basically if you know how long a keg lasts you, you can make it longer or shorter so the hops would only contact the beer for a certain amount of time.
