    Cider Hangovers

Thanks for all the tips! The one time I got the dreaded sewer/rotten egg smell during fermentation forced me to move to the garage because my closet smelled like our septic tank backed up into it. Thus, no temperature controlled fermentation area any longer :( My latest batch is brewing now and...

    Cider Hangovers

It sits in the garage and the temp can vary greatly. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter. I used to let it ferment in my bathroom closet but my wife didn’t like the smell.

    Cider Hangovers

Howdy from Texas Y'all! I've been brewing cider for quite a few years now. One thing I've noticed over the past few years is that I get a pretty bad hangover when I drink much of my cider. I'd appreciate any advice on reducing the hangover from my cider. Here is my recipe: Juice - I've used...

First Cider - Smells Like rotten Eggs!!! HELP!

I’ve never had the rhino fart smell until my latest batch of cider. It’s been 4 weeks and it still smells. I’ve racked it to a different carboy and put the airlock back on. I have it in the garage and the temp is between 30 and 70 (crazy Texas winters...) It doesn’t taste too bad, but I have to...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Nice, how much yeast and sugar did you use for a 10 oz bottle? Thanks, Greg

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Thanks. I'll look into BeerSmith. How do I read the number on the hydrometer? Is it .996? Once again, sorry for the stupid questions for those more experienced...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Hi Everyone, I've just racked my cider to a second carboy to try and get it to clarify a bit as it is very cloudy. It no longer bubbles as it has been a few weeks... I took a reading, but honestly don't really know how to interpret it. This is a very amature question ,but would someone...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Hello, The first few times I've made this, I haven't been able to get it to carbonate in the bottle. After a month, the yeast seems to have run it's course so adding sugar then bottling it didn't create any carbonation. This time I am using an Ale Yeast. I put about 1.5 packets in and...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Ok, don't flame me for asking this, but I'm getting fat drinking all of my wonderful cider. What are the calories in our homemade apple cider if we don't add back any sweetener? I was kind of figuring that the yeast ate up most, if not all, of the sugar content. Any thoughts?

Unfiltered Juice - Strange Sediment in Bottles...

Hi Everyone. This is only my second batch of cider and it is much better than the first so far. But, I put some in a clear fliptop bottle the other day and a strange creamy looking sediment about 1 cm thick formed at the bottom. (I couldn't resist trying it since it has stopped bubbling)...

    Kegging Kombucha

I've been brewing buch for over a year now with great success. I pretty much brew a gallon a week using a 2 gallon glass jar something like this: I've never kegged anything, but want to get started kegging my kombucha and potentially keg some cider that I'm experimenting with. Can...

Scoby rather than yeast to make cider?

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't aware that a SCOBY didn't product much alcohol. I guess if it did I'd probably be a little buzzed all the time from all the kombucha I make and drink :tank: Maybe I'll do an experiment with a half gallon of apple juice and a SCOBY to see how it turns out.

Scoby rather than yeast to make cider?

Hello Everyone, Could I take some of a scoby and drop it into a carboy with apple juice, then put an air lock on it to make hard cider? (rather than using yeast specifically for brewing cider) I searched and saw some threads about cider and kombucha but couldn't find a thread where someone...
