    Too much priming sugar! Salvageable?

F'realsies? Complete Joy of Homebrewing (C. Papasian) says 3/4 cup corn Sugar or 1.25 cup of DME per 5 gallon batch. I have used it many times when I bottled (years ago) with nary an issue.

    Too much priming sugar! Salvageable?

OK, I had a senior moment. I have been corny kegging for years. I made a German Chocolate cake stout, and was bottling it to give to a friend as a gift. It was a 3 gallon batch, Half way through bottling I realized my mistake! I forgot to reduce the amount and added priming sugar (1.25 cups DME...

    Low Attenuation

I'd skip the re-heating at 30 min. I think the application of heat is causing a stoppage or partial stoppage of enzymatic action in your wort. Like when (in all grain brewing) you raise your temp to 170F to mash out (i.e. halt enzymatic activity) A 1-2 degree drop is absolutely nothing to worry...

Grapefruit Vodka instead of GF zest soaked in vodka?

Has anyone just used GF flavored vodka instead of zesting, soaking, etc.? Did it work? Sounds a lot easier. Can anyone come up with a reason why it would be a bad idea? Fresh chopped grapefruit and hops in a Randall?

What I did for beer today

Haven't done it yet today, but I'm stopping in the Salvation Army store looking for a cheap old machine of some sort, to use as a project box for my STC-1000 fermentation fridge. Stupid Radio Shacks all closed up around these parts.

    Diacetyl - From which mistake?

Made an IPA and wound up with a touch of Diacetyl. Not to the point of being ruined, I drink it and my friends said it was good, but not something I would be proud of at the HB club meeting. I had it fermenting and temps were 67-ish (safale US 05). I lost track of the weather and came out of...

What came in the mail for you today?

Expecting STC-1000 for a free fermenter fridge. Soon I'll be able to brew all year. WooHoo!

    Working on new Logo

LOL! I've told them...repeatedly. Bad branding is almost as bad as lousy beer!

    Working on new Logo

Need any help? I work in printing, but I'm not a Graphic designer. I love to design logos and labels for my own brews. I'm thinking of contacting a new brewery being built and an 3+ year old brewery near me with the most horrendous can labels EVER!

    Weird numbers?

My first AG, after many years of extract, an IPA. When I mashed in I got 3 different temps with 3 different thermometers, one metal, one glass, one digital. I aparrently mashed at 152 for 30 min 158 for 35 minutes. My wort going into the kettle was 1.065 which is what it should have been going...

Ok how bad did I screw this up?

I know, right...This is unchartered territory! It just may cause a tear in the fabric of space/time! LOL Maybe I'll throw in some extra dry hops in the secondary and call it a 2xIPA

Ok how bad did I screw this up?

POST BOIL was supposed to be 1.065

Ok how bad did I screw this up?

Long time extract, First time AG. Due to a bad thermomiter, (2 actually) I mashed at 158*F (target was 153*) for about 30 minutes. When I remembered where I left my old reliable glass and mercury thermomiter, I tested it at 158*. I chucked in a few snowballs and got it down to 153*F for the...

All Grain Brew in Beer Bottles

I found two bottles of an (extract) stout I made 8-10 years ago. They were in returnable Old Mill pounders, kept in the heavy cardboard case in the basement. No "ring" around the inside of the top to indicate something growing in it. I chilled them and popped one open and got a nice "pshhht", so...
