How did this turn out? I live in Lincoln Square. I love some Daisy Cutter, but always figured Daisy Cutter was Galenas and Sterlings and a big grassy mess. I would never have guessed a fruity Simcoe or Aarillo dry hop.
Local Store was out of American Wheat Ale yeast for my VERY simple wheat extract recipe. Its like the NB extract kit- no grains, just wheat LME and two hop additions, except instead of Willamette and Cascade, I was going to use Cascade and Citra and then dry hop it just a bit for a citrusy...
Just an update- No more bombs since the storm. Beer is a bit overcarbed for style, but otherwise shaping up.
Shorty- Love the analysis. I had never heard the word milibars before you post. Thanks for the enlightenment. I'm afraid in my telling of the story, it will always have atmospheric...
It was cold yes...but I wouldn't say it was out of the normal range. It's usually much colder in the basement where it was fermented, maybe mid to high 60s? It got to the 90's in the kitchen where they were stored in the bottles. We thought it might have something to do with the storm b/c the...
I used ¾ of a cup of corn sugar or whatever the recipe called for (sorry I don’t have it in front of me). Now I’m spooked about infection. I drank the one we opened after the foaming subsided…it wasn’t bad—all be it too warm, but it had sort of an odd aftertaste. My...
This is probably about my 12th batch or so and I've never had problems with bottling.
So we brewed the "Innkeeper" English Ale extract recipe from Northern Brewer. OG was 1.054. There wasn't a target grvity on the recipe, but we figured since we had a stable gravity of 1.010 over a few...
Did you mix it with hot water? From what Ive read that will break down the iodine more quickly, turn it white, and actually make conditions favorable to bacteria. Use tepid or cold water.
Also - read this. Dude called up the company and talked to "Mr. Iodophor". Good read. Answered alot...
Dry hopping an IPA tonite. Fermented for 2 weeks in primary, and it seemed pretty much done. (The airlock was bubbling about 5 minutes apart.) I moved it to a 5 gallon carboy to dry hop. To my eye it only seemed like there was about 4 gallons in the carboy.
Is headspace an issue in this...
I'm moving to a new apartment this weekend. I have a DFH 60 that is finishing primary right now. It will have to dry hop for a week in secondary next.
Is it better to move it in the car in the primary bucket, or should I rack it to the carboy first? Or does it even matter?
I cooked up a DFH 60 clone last night and it was my first time using a slap pack (1056). I took my slap pack out of the fridge before I started on the wort. I thought I had broken the bubble inside when I set it out, but it turned out that I hadn't. When it came time to pitch the yeast I...
