Isn't the concern with carb tabs in this situation that they could provide nucleation sites for the CO2 already in solution? You could have a Diet Coke + Mentos scenario on your hands adding carb tabs to a partially carbonated bottle.

+1 I have a couple cases of Schwelmer swingtops from their hefeweizen. Also have come across Hacker Pschorr swingtops in the past as well.

Depending on how full the keg is, you also have to account for the expansion of water as it freezes, which could put quite a bit of force on the walls of the keg. I could imagine a full keg getting quite deformed if it froze solid.
