Looking for Brewing Supplies near SW Ark

If you buy your grain in anything approaching large quantities, I'd suggest you checkout the prices on 5 and 10lb. bags at MoreBeer. If you purchase $50.00 or more in grains and other products, the shipping is included in the price. Prices have zoomed somewhat with inflation, but I think there's...

    Is 54 Diastatic Power enough?

I've always been under the impression that crystal malts do not require receiving diastatic powers from base malts to release their sugar content. Just the heat of the mash water itself.

    What are you drinking now?

A little bit of levity… very little some would say.

    Dry beer

Just whisper "Vermouth" over the bottling bucket before proceeding. ;-)

Are You Your Own Favorite Brewer?

The last time I bought beer was around 2014 or '15 I think… and that was only on a semi-emergency basis.

Question for the cheapskates out there using plain old buckets for fermenting

No holes in the lid, no sealed lids for me, and of course airlocks went to the never used drawer long ago. I place the lid firmly on the top then give it a bit of a seal with a 2.25lb. weight from dumbbell set. I'm firmly committed to the KISS principle.

Has anyone recently ordered from Midwest?

i find it a bit odd that MoreBeer gets so little ink here. They've been my goto source for a decade and their service, prices and selection are always near or at the top. I always make up a large enough order to get their free shipping, and the order is usually at my garage door within 3 or 4 days.

What are your tips for keeping costs down

About a year ago I decided to cut back on any attempts to make "big beers". I don't mean "huge beer", 5-6 gallon recipes employing 12-14lbs. of fermentables. Too many calories, and too many extra pounds for we geezers. By cutting back fermentables to 8-9 pounds, using higher percentages of...

"For the love of god ... !" - Homebrew platitudes that grind your gears

Agreed to a point, but this ain't open heart surgery either. I always thought sanitizing bottlecaps was an overreach.

    Share a tip

If I shared some of the shortcuts, workarounds, and hacks I use to make my brews I'd likely get banned from this forum permanently. I have a feeling that KISS tactics won't be tolerated by many regulars, which is okay, too…

How Many Gallons of Homebrew in 2018?

Not to feel dumb – I thought the same thing when I started following this thread. You were smart enough to ask the question. I know there are some insanely commited brewers on these sites, but 8,000 gallons?

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you start evaluating 1/2 the items in your supermarket or big box store regarding their possible use in a homebrew recipe or procedure.
