This is for all grain recipes. I have always sparged with more water and reached my desired volume that way. I was just wondering why beer smith would show to add the water post boil.

I have some 55 gallon SS drums that I am need of some lids for. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Does anyone know if or where you can but the Blichman lids for their pots.

What is the best choice for adding a thermometer to a ss conical fermenter. There are no fittings or pre-drilled holes. Most of the weld less types say they are for mash tun or hlt. Is there a different or better choice for a fermenter. Thanks

What are the benefits or disadvantages of using a dry yeast like muttons dry ale yeast for pale ales, ipa's etc vs the more expensive liquid smack packs.

Working on trying my first all grain batch, its a wheat recipe for 5.5 gallons. It calls for a total of 9.25 lbs of grain. So I should mash in with about 11.5 quarts of water right? So how do I figure how much I need to sparge with?
