    Critique my newbie bottling method

6 weeks later and half of the batch is gone (into my belly). Very good for a first try. :)

Good idea with the weed sprayer.

    Critique my newbie bottling method

Bottled my first batch today. Started off by sanitizing all of my equipment with star san. Meanwhile, I boiled 3/4 cup of dextrose with 2 cups of water (per How to Brew) and let it cool. I poured the sugar solution into the sanitized bottling bucket, and then siphoned the beer from the...

    Best Podcasts?

I really like Basic Brewing Radio and also the Jamil Show (google it). Both are great for beginners like me.

Thanks Revvy and Yoop for the help. :ban:

I just bottled my first batch!

Question..... I guess we are just supposed to rely on the fact that there are enough viable yeasties still floating around in our beer (even after racking to a secondary fermenter) to complete the bottle conditioning?

    Better Bottle - Instant Fan

I had my first newbie experience with a 6.5 gallon glass carboy today and I am pretty sure I am going to get a better bottle. The weight and slip factor are ridiculous with the glass carboys.

    About dry hopping

I heard Jamil say on one of his podcast episodes that the hops emit a chemical that surround the little nasties and prevent them from growing/expanding and ruining your beer.

    About dry hopping

Lots of good info in here. I bought 1 oz of Cascade leaf hops that I plan on adding into my secondary once fermentation finishes.

When to go from Primary to Secondary (If at all)

So if I am planning on a 2 week secondary, I should wait a week before adding in the hops?

When to go from Primary to Secondary (If at all)

2 questions from a newbie.... 1. Is there a time limit that you should adhere to with dry hopping? 2. I have a 6 gallon carboy I was planning on using as a secondary. Will that allow too much oxidation or should I just not worry about it. :)

Just put my first beer into the fermenter

So what is the best method to "rob" some of your beer from the fermenter to take a hydrometer reading if you don't have a wine thief?

    First brew in bucket

Ok, this is reassuring. I am a newbie and my first beer has been in the fermenter for about 27 hours now and I have had very few bubbles. I used Munton's dry yeast that came with the kit and re-hydrated it according to John Palmer's method. The temp started out around 70 and has been at 72 now...
