My First Brew: True Brew Amber

Thanks Skyforger for the info. It is kind of sad and I am quickly loosing faith in the whole HBT forum as I did start new threads but it took posting a comment on an old thread to get a response that was worth anything. Then you go and give me a lesson in thread posting. In the few weeks that I...

LME: To boil or not to boil?

Did a bit more research and found a blurb in "How To Brew" by John Palmer that basically states that if adding finishing hops to hopped malt extract, boil for 15 to 30 minutes. If using bittering hops with hopped malt extract boil the hops anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes adding the hopped malt at...

    Look Ma! I made beer!

LME: To boil or not to boil?

The kit contained hopped amber malt LME. So what effect will the fact that I boiled for about 30 minutes have on the beer?

LME: To boil or not to boil?

I am a week into my second batch with is a True Brew Amber Ale. I have learned that kit instructions should be only used as a guide, if at all. This was my first boil kit so being new to the hobby, I wanted to keep it fairly simple. Instructions stated to bring the water to a boil, remove from...

My First Brew: True Brew Amber

I started this kit on 2/28/12 and fermentation started after about 10 hours. Two days later and there was no visible activity in the air lock. On day 4 I transfered to a glass carboy and took a reading. OG was 1.044 and today's reading was 1.012. Other than bottling after a week, I followed the...

First Batch - Advice would be great

Primary vs. Secondary, one of the most common questions here. Most people are saying that there is no need to transfer to a secondary unless you are adding fruits or dry hopping. If you haven't already, check out BrewingNetwork.com and the Brew Strong podcasts. Search for podcasts about...

    True Brew Amber Ale

Decided to transfer to my secondary today. My OG was 1.044 and after transfer I took another reading, 1.012. Per the instuctions that is where the FG should be. Still going to let it settle in the carboy for about another 2 weeks.

    True Brew Amber Ale

Thanks for the responses mattne421 and vlucchetti. Even though I am thinking it won't turn out like DE, I am still excited about getting it bottled and giving it a try. Let me know how things work out scarfaceshim.

    Fermentation questions

Before I brewed my first batch I researched every aspect of home brewing to death. The equipment kit I bought included a fermenting bucket, a carboy, and a bottling bucket. I read a post here on HBT, sorry I can't provide a link, but the jist of the post was 1,2,3. 1 week in the primary, 2 weeks...

First Batch - Advice would be great

I would be very interested in kowing how this batch turns out for you. Coppers Wheat was my first batch as well. I used one can of their hopped wheat and one can of their unhopped light malt extract. Boiled the water, removed from heat, added the extract and poured into the primary. One week in...

    First time

Nothing wrong with experimenting, that's how we learn. I do agree that you should get the techniques down first with more traditional brews, just makes it easier in the long run. I don't have a lot of experience yet, just getting ready to start my third batch. However, I am learning from each...

    Look Ma! I made beer!

I personally don't drink a lot of beer, maybe a few on the weekend. Got into the hobby so I could make and try many different styles. My first batch, a raspberry wheat was bottled 5 weeks ago at 3 weeks we tried it, friends tried it, and friends wanted more. So now 2 weeks later I only have 5...

    True Brew Amber Ale

car421; You are about 2 weeks ahead of me. Let me know how things turn out. D0ug; Congrats on taking first place! I have my doubts as well with the comparison to Dos Equis. However, I have found a recipe for Negra Modelo which I might try. It is a lager and coming into warmer months, I am not...

    True Brew Amber Ale

Started the kit on 2/28/12. Fermentation began at about 10 hours and stayed active for about 2 days. Will let things settle down now and transfer to the secondary on 3/4/12. If all goes well, two weeks in the secondary and then into the bottles. Stay tuned, more to follow.
