The ball bearing still could be Stainless steel. there is different types of stainless. I know 304 Stainless will turning black in an acid environment. This happens is food Plants with the chemicals they use to wash down the equipment. It does not effect the steel or its sanitary properties...
I did the same thing when I was in a hurry to hook things up and put the in line on the out of the keg. I just made sure the sleeve was up and slowly wiggled it back and forth and not up and down. It SLOWLY worked it way off. Do no use a lot of force.
Stay away from the white part of the oranges it will give a sour/bitter taste that can take over your beer. I learned this the hard way, the beer was not undrinkable but pretty close.
I would not worry about it. All the hassle of dealing with a little bit of hops particle isn't a big deal if you and your buddies are going to be drinking it. I usually do not get to much sucked up anyway. I am kegging now and just let the beer sit in the keg for a few days and the first glass...
When I started brewing 10 years ago at the age of 21 the kits I bought always had a sock like bag for the hops for the boil. I guess I have never really thought about it because "that how I have always done it"
The first question is do most people use a hop bag during boil? I have heard...
I have two similar looking beers in the carboy and I was in a hurry and not paying attention and grabbed the wrong carboy and kegged The beer was not quit to it finally gravity because I check the day before and it was at about 1.022. I had made it about 12 days before hand. I then left it...
My question is after I lager for my 4 weeks. Can I just store the beer in a carboy in my 55 degree basement for awhile. If so how long?
This problem comes up because my lagering fridge is old and sucks. It is sitting in a basement that is 54 degrees and when I set it to 32 degrees it take...
Make a starter and give it a couple of extra days. I might do a step starter where you keep adding in extra starter solution every day. It will help the yeast stay in reproduction as opposed to fermentation.
But if you got the pack to inflate a normal starter will probably work.
I have used both for a Wit beer with the same grain mix. You really will not see much of difference, I know there will be people that will say I am wrong but I could not tell much of a difference.
Soak them with a stronger bleach mix. Then rinse them EXTREMELY well. You do not want any bleach lingering around. I usually rinse about 3-4 times to get it all out.
THanks for the info MalFet and the link about primary secondary.
Would there be any problems harvesting the yeast of the bottom of the secondary if it has been there for 2 -3 weeks. total of 3-4 weeks since I brewed it.
Ryan
I have only been harvesting from my primary. I usually transfer after about 1-2 weeks. I thought you did not want to sit on the yeast cake longer then you had to. How long would you recommend to let it sit.
Thanks for the response
I have been washing my yeast and it have been going fine but I was wondering when I should transfer to the secondary to get a decent amount of yeast. I usually have been waiting about 2 days after there is little to no activity on the air lock. My Gravity reading is usually with in 90-95% of...
No, the scrap is full of chemicals. I worked at in high school a company that treated wood for the big companies. They would soak the oak in chemicals to dry it out quickly. It was not kiln dried. I am not sure what was in it but it could not have been good. I would find some real trees or...
