    Yeasty taste?

Thats a good point, Joe. I think I'll try a different yeast. And I should probably rack more- I have been very lazy about that. Thanks!

    Yeasty taste?

Can someone give me a hint here? This is the second batch of cider I've made that has had a strong yeasty taste. First batch: Whole Foods Cider, pitched 1/4 packet safale-04 in each gallon- fermented out for about 2 weeks until almost done, bottled with apple juice concentrate in one gallon...

    How necessary is a secondary?

Nice. Exactly want I wanted to hear :) now I can free up the primaries for my second batch of cider and get the buckets started with my first ale!

    How necessary is a secondary?

Hi there! First batch of cider going- has been brewing for 25 days. Seems to be about done according to SG. I was going to siphon into a secondary, but all I have at the moment is a plastic brewing bucket. Should I bother, or should I just let it sit in the primary a little longer before...

    Apple Wine With Safale S-04

I used S-04 with my cider (with added sugar). Just checked today at 2 weeks and it is 1.010 I'm going to let it go a little longer, then siphon into a secondary for a while.

The Plan. Does this sound right to you?

OK, I'll try to be patient and give the secondary some more time :) Good to know the cold crashing will work. We do have room in our fridge. I think I will go that route. I would prefer to do it that way.

The Plan. Does this sound right to you?

Thanks so much for the feedback! I think I'm not so sure what the secondary is for so that is why I'm wanting to rush it. I've heard people say that it helps the flavor etc. What exactly happens? If the sugar is gone, I'm assuming The yeast can't be active anymore? I'm hesitant to use...

The Plan. Does this sound right to you?

Hi! Total Newb here. I have a few questions for your expert advice! I'm currently brewing 2 one gallon jugs of 365 Apple Juice that I added about 1/3C brown sugar to each(for an OG of 1051), then I spiked them with 1/4 packet each of s-04 (Q1- was that enough??) They have been happily bubbling...

Open bottle of Whole Foods cider- need to pasteurize again??

Oh, I like the double boiler method- esp. as I don't have my sanitizer yet. Thanks so much for the input! **update** I tasted it and it seemed fine. I just added some brown sugar and sprinkled the yeast on top. I figure I can take a risk with 1 gallon. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Open bottle of Whole Foods cider- need to pasteurize again??

Hi there! Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm a total newb! I bought two 1 gallon jugs of 365 juice to ferment, an s-04 yeast, airlocks and toppers, but have been researching whether I want to buy more equipment like to check SG, tubing and bottles, sanitizer etc. before I pitched the...

first time brewing anything- the great "cider" experiment

I'm a newbie to brewing as well. I have 2 jugs of whole foods juice sitting on my counter next to a few airlocks and bungs, and some Salale-s04 in the fridge. I'm hoping to get things started tonight, but was scanning these posts for hints. Where is the brew equipment store you are talking...
