    Hops broke ground already

Checked yesterday and all of my hops have broke ground, some just barely, Centennial, Cascade, Zeus, Sterling, Chinook and Willamette I believe. They are second year hops but looks like our temps here in northeast Kansas are staying in the 50s-70s*F range.

    2016 Hop Growing Thread

Got my shady ripped 2x4 trellis built a couple weeks ago. Surprised it didn't warp to much but seems to be working. I think it is about 7.5 feet tall with rope zig zagged so that I can get some extra growth without building a 12-15' trellis in the backyard. I don't think my neighbors would...

    2016 Hop Growing Thread

Something nibbled the top of a couple of my shoots popping up. Operation hop intruder commencing. Been getting tons of rain here but I have a few shoots on each variety. Still need to build out some sort of trellis for each variety.

    Oatmeal Cream Stout WLP007

I added the recipe. It is probably just a stout with lactose and oatmeal. I was talking to the brew store owner and he was also confused why I was using WLP007 but said that with the addition of the lactose it should turn out just fine. Lactose probably counteracts the dryness/aggressiveness of...

    Oatmeal Cream Stout WLP007

After reading up more on White Labs website it looks like attenuation is around 70-80%. So I guess if I get in that range I will be alright. I know it is still early. Well here are the directions. Recipe came from NB...Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat I believe. 7.75 lbs.Briess Pale Ale 1 lbs. English...

    Oatmeal Cream Stout WLP007

This is my first beer I have brewed ever, but one of my favorite types of beer to enjoy. However I have some questions about WLP007. I have been reading through a lot of threads about this particular strain of yeast and some of my current readings match up with other people but feel like maybe I...
