    "Hang" beer lines??

    This is reassuring. Thanks.

    "Hang" beer lines??

So I've read a few threads where folks refer to cleaning and then hanging their beer lines. So far, I have only run beer line cleaner/sanitizer through them. I replaced the beer lines on my kegerator once (to increase the line length), and frankly it was a pain in the a$$. The space in the...

Muslin vs. Nylon bag for pellet hops?

Using this for dry hopping, probably in the keg. Is a muslin bag better at keeping the material together and out of the beer or is it the same as fine nylon? I've only used nylon so far, but it seems not as effective as I would like with pellet hops. -E

    Racking cane/autosiphon

So at the end of my brewing day, I wash and rinse everything. The racking cane/tubing has a lot of water droplets on the inside. It will take days to dry by itself. Is this anything I need to worry about? - ie, Will it lead to sanitation problems at some point? Or is this a case of RDWHAHB...

    Starsan solution in airlock

The 3-piece airlock worked perfectly well with water or vodka, so it doesn't appear to be damaged in any way. Starsan dilution, 1oz/5 gal water.

    Starsan solution in airlock

In the past, I used vodka or distilled water for airlock fluid, but last batch, I tried Starsan in the airlock. I used the correctly diluted solution that I use to sanitize. Every time the airlock bubbled up, the film from the bubble would catch a tiny bit on the edge of the tube in the...

    Fermentation chamber questions

Ok, that would be perfect. I wasn't sure if letting wort sit in the sealed fermentor without yeast for a few hours was a no-no.

    Fermentation chamber questions

I'm considering getting a temperature control for a freezer in my garage to make a fermentation chamber. I have a couple questions: Is it more effective to control the temperature in the freezer by letting the probe hang in the freezer, or to more directly control the wort temp by...

    Keg cleaning kit purchase error?

So I recently re-booted my beer-making hobby after a 15 year hiatus. This time I decided to move to kegs. I got a lot of equipment, most of it in use and working great. But I think I may have bought something that I don't need. When I was looking at various things to buy, I saw beer line...

    Which choice (fermentation temp)?

I kinda figured this would be the response. Let me push it just a little bit though. With the swamp cooler and the t-shirt, I'm pretty certain that I can keep the fermenter in yeast's stated spec (68-73). Why shouldn't that be cool enough? ie, Why isn't the White labs spec what I should be...

    Which choice (fermentation temp)?

Your opinion is requested: 1) Ferment in my "cellar". Ambient temps are ranging from a low of 56 at night to a high of 62. With hotter weather that could happen over the 4-week ferment you could add 3-5 degrees, but it is pretty stable. (A downside here is I would have slog the fermenter...

Techniques for dry hopping in primary

Lots of good input here. Great suggestions. Thanks. Nice pics. And wait...over 58,000 posts. Holy sh*t. :drunk: <whips out a calculator> I guess that is only 1.4 posts per day since June 2006. Yeah, I might have to break down and bucket. But it will be disappointing since I get a lot...

First time kegging - carbonation and balancing

Yes. But that damn wrench for the tower, not so much. :smack: UPDATE: Well, I tried it with the 5' of line that I have and it seems to be working fine. No foaming, pours great. Go figure. I'll cross my fingers and hope it stays that way. If not, well, I guess I'll have to get that...

Techniques for dry hopping in primary

Side question on cold crashing - I've never cold crashed before. I might have enough room in the kegerator to fit the fermenter. If I cold crash, I will need to move the fermentor before I rack to the keg (in order to get it high enough and in a location that I can rack). Thing is, that...
