    Bucket fermentation temp controller

Ok, I didn't know that since we all mostly use copper with immersion chillers- but I guess that is only for a brief period. I will still try this with water as a proof of concept, and then try to rig the same setup with SS tubing.

    Bucket fermentation temp controller

Well, I'm sure this isn't original, but I thought of using a bit of copper tubing to act as a temp control system with a plastic bucket. The idea is to keep a cooler with ice water in it (I know, I have to refresh the cooler with ice probably every day), in the cooler is a submersible pond pump...

Ever seen this in a fermentor?

Thanks all, I woke up this morning to a pretty normal looking krausen. Relieved!

Ever seen this in a fermentor?

Hi all, I've brewed about 25-30 AG batches in the past, and this is a new one for me. This is a 10 gallon cream ale recipe as follows: 20 # 2-row 2 # Vienna 1 # Carapils 1 # Flaked Oats 1 # Flaked Corn 4 oz Cascade WLP 080 (Cream Ale Yeast) Mash @ 153, 60 min OG 1.065...

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

Made 10 gallons today, omitted the lactose, all else according to the recipe. Split between 2 carboys, going to leave one as is, and add cocoa nibs and vanilla beans to the other in the secondary. Efficiency was a bit lower that expected, but otherwise all went well. Can't wait to try this one!

    Major Upset this weekend brewing!

I was at 1.016, temp corrected to 1.015. My big mistake, is not checking it more than once. I didn't have issues with previous brews, so I guess I just got lucky the first few times. Bottom line, I am pretty positive fermentation wasn't done. The real question now, is any of this salvageable?

    Major Upset this weekend brewing!

"Cracked one open" was a figure of speech. This was a big river brown ale from Midwest. 2 weeks fermenting, two weeks in the bottle- just like the instructions say.

    Major Upset this weekend brewing!

I'm at about 12 days in the bottle. I wasn't thinking they were ready, I just wanted to get a sneak peek at how the were coming along. I chilled that bottle in the fridge for about 30min or so. I'm going to check a few more this weekend. If I crack them open, and a good bit gushes out, is it...

    Major Upset this weekend brewing!

Well, cracked open the first one of these to see how it was coming along. Bad news, it was a gusher. I got about 3-4 swallows of beer out of the whole bottle. Still had what I think was yeast floating in it. I haven't opened anymore, so I don't know if that was one bad bottle, or if the whole...

    Major Upset this weekend brewing!

Thanks, guys. I'll try to post when I drink this an let you know if it came out ok.

    Major Upset this weekend brewing!

So my fourth batch of homebrew, 2d all grain, may not turn out well. It's a brown ale from a Midwest kit. Everything was going great, and I went to start the water on my wort chiller. Apparently, there was a kink in the hose (I use a garden hose to get the run off from the chiller out of the...

Does efficiency matter if you hit your numbers?

Thanks for the replies. Bottom line, I guess, is that consistency is more important than raw efficiency. I should bottle this batch next week, I'll let you all know how it turns out. Thanks, Eric

Does efficiency matter if you hit your numbers?

Hi all, first post after lurking for a while. I did my first AG batch last weekend (3d batch total). It was a Liberty Cream Ale from Midwest with Wyeast smack pack. Followed directions pretty much, added irish moss at the end of the boil. My measured gravity before I pitched was 1.042, which is...
