    Cleaning Carboy (inside-film, crud)

used the oxy and TSP i bought at home depot, definitely looked like it was good stuff, scrubbin away... HOWEVER failed to eliminate what are likely mineral deposits. i'm going to try the vinegar and let you all know.

    Cleaning Carboy (inside-film, crud)

Hi Everyone, I came into ownership of a neat shaped carboy ~5 gal, previously used for red wine. It has a film of haze, whitish, almost like salt on your winter steps that I can't seem to get rid of. It reminds me of when glassware gets old...maybe it's just a sign that it was used/loved...

    factors in a longer-than-average primary?

hi everyone, thanks so much to all the kind responses to my previous questions. a few times i have noticed primary going quite a bit beyond its average 2-3 days... i know factors such as underpitching cold temps lager yeasts can extend the primary fermentation a bit, but what might be...

lowering my FG - yeast problem? restarting fermentation?

Hi everyone, I posted a topic regarding a WLP english ale I received in the mail that I was worried about having gotten too warm. I pitched it, no starter, into 5 gallons of 1052 wort in the 70's. Primary lasted a few days now it's still and it's been about a week. Only down to 1020. In...

something that affects us ALL: shipping yeast and summer heat

Hi All, I know that many of us use mail order for brewing supplies, and it's no secret that summer heat is a danger even WITH ice packs. I had an order arrive (I picked it up FROM the UPS man) with 2 vials of white labs english ale and a melted ice pack. Even after days of refrigeration the...
