    Cork and wax dipping

Just came up with another option. Cork and cage the beer... wait a month for it to carbonate, then take the cage off, and dip in wax to seal and condition. That way i have a cage when most of the pressure is on the bottle and wax when there is less pressure. Thoughts?

    Cork and wax dipping

Hi folks, I had an idea I wanted to run by yall. I am going to brew a batch of gift beer, a really heavy stout (about 12%abv). I know its going to take a few months to condition, and I am looking at options. I thought that a corked bottle Belgian bottle would be a nice touch, but I have...

    North Carolina Many hot plates

Thanks for the PMs folks. I am responding to them all now. Plate #2 is not available anymore. really? My flask was listed as safe for heating elements, and it said ONLY to use a hot plate, and that an open flame or oven burner can damage it. Has anyone else cracked their flask on a hot plate...

    North Carolina Many hot plates

So... I'm an idiot. I used a bid-bot on ebay to place a bunch of bids, but forgot to "group" them (doesn't bid on the next one if you win). The result... i ended up winning 4 of my auctions and I now have 4 stir plates/ hot plates coming in and i only need one. My dumb mistake is everyone else's...

    multiplying yeast before brew

Last question. I have read that most people wont wash a yeast more than 2-3 times. Is that the case with this method as well or can i just keep building up one of my vials and splitting it again since it's more "pure"?

    multiplying yeast before brew

Thank you this is perfect and exactly what i plan on doing, only im going to take it a step farther and decant the little mason jar, leave an ounce or so, and store the yeast in my vials. What can i say... i have a dozen 1.5oz vials laying around and I like my vials:D

    multiplying yeast before brew

Honestly, i just like the vials in my fridge better than the mason jars. Its mainly aesthetic, but if i want to store a bunch of yeasts, I dont really have room for 10-12 mason jars in the fridge, so i want to use vials. Also, i happen to have a dozen 1.5oz glass vials from another project...

    multiplying yeast before brew

I'm sure this has been covered and I apologize in advance. I have been searching for this for about 20min and i cant exactly describe what im trying to do, so i cant find much on it. I am currently washing yeast the traditional method and i find it annoying. Not the end of the world, but...

    Simple kegerator build

Hey Folks, came up with an interesting idea that I realized i haven't seen many people do before (although I dont think there's a ton of 2.5gal brewers out there either). I got a pretty nice wine cooler off of craigslist for $50, and basically just drilled some holes, and set up a simple...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

For those of you who use a mash tun in your 1 gallon brews... do you sparge? I have a 5 gallon mash tun, and usually stary my boils with 1.75G of wort. If i put less than a gallon in my mash tun (2 part sparge), it only covers the bottom few inches, and I'm worried about it 1) not working well...

    carlos rossi bottles

Hi folks, I have been brewing 3 gallon extract batches in a 5 gallon brewpot, and I dont think it will be big enough for BIAB, so ive been looking at some other ideas with small-batch beers. For those of you who ferment in Carlos Rossi bottles (4L), that is cutting it darn close to one...

    thermometer placement

So... made a dumb mistake. I just eyeballed my thermometer placement on my kettle and when i tested the water levels, the probe of the thermometer sits about half an inch above the water level (after boil off). The good news is that it is a few inches below water level pre-boil. My thoughts are...

    Jockey box question

thanks for everyone's help. I went with a 6 pass cold plate, and i'm going to use jumpers to pass two faucets through the plate 3 times each. I've read that most cold paltes are abotu 20ft internally, so it should give me around 60 ft each. If anyone sees an issue i should be aware of please let...

    Jockey box question

Awesome. I am a little confused on one thing tho. What would be the difference between buying a 6 pass cold plate, and triple passing it, vs. these people who are using 120' coils. If there's 20ft per pass, that would be the same as having two 60ft coils right?

    Jockey box question

I know this is subjective... and I hate to be that guy but how bad are we talking? Miserably foamy or just need to pour with care? I only ask because i have to pull the trigger fast on buying the cold plate if i want to do it.
