    Blichmann Burner

Ok, my buddy with the Blichmann bitched out on me this weekend, but I actually picked up a banjo burner from Agri supply that I wanted to post about. First off, without a doubt, you get much more heat from the banjo burner. So much heat that I actually burned off the plastic handle of my HLT...

    Blichmann Burner

Ok, later this month we are going to have a challenge. I have a buddy that bought a Blichmann. I have a used SP-10 (or something like it.) It has the standard burner and sits up high enough to drain into a fermenter. I want to do a side by side test and see what the difference is in boil time...

    Blichmann Burner

+1 for brewing outside. I could not imagine it any other way. However, I have only had to contend with acorns and falling leaves. I have no experience with dust. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Blichmann Burner

Thanks for all of the feedback. A KAB6 will run you $113 with shipping but then you will have to modify the stand because of a design flaw. Meanwhile a Blinchmann will run you $150 + about 50 more for the legs and shipping. The noise factor has to count for something and based upon your comments...

    Blichmann Burner

This has been bothering me all day. I have been toying with the idea of getting a new burner as mine is not the best. A lot of people say that Blichmanns are simply the best because they: 1. Have a stainless steel frame 2. Don't blow out due to wind 3. Use less propane 1. I could care...

High Gravity Beer IBU Ratio Question

Thanks Cluckk, your response makes a lot of sense and puts my mind at ease. I just did an IPA similar to Founders Centennial and while it was a great beer, I felt that it needed more hop bite. I have never brewed a beer with this high of a gravity and am getting anxious.

High Gravity Beer IBU Ratio Question

My mistake, the OG of the beer was 1.087 so I named it 187 IPA and included it in my beers. I will remember to be more specific next post. I am trying to make a double IPA or imperial IPA, whatever you would like to call it. The IBU to OG ratio is around 1.33. I use beersmith for all of my...

High Gravity Beer IBU Ratio Question

I have a quick question about high gravity brewing. I recently brewed a beer with an OG of 1.087. If the beer ferments out to 1.015 then the beer should have a ABV around 9.45%. Is 110 IBUs enough for a beer of that gravity? Thanks, DrKeiser

    Recipe adjustments

Beersmith has a scaling feature built in that will tell you exactly what you need but agree with what everyone says. You will need just a touch less hops.

    IIPA recipe assistance

+1 for upping the IBUs. I have no experience with brewtoad but I am sure that there is a read out that lists the IBU to SG ratio. You need more IBUs. I recently brewed an IPA with a similar SG and with around 65 IBUs and it did not taste that hoppy at all.

    Centenniel Pilsner IPA

Here is an update on the beer. I left it for 2 weeks in the primary and the gravity was 1.015. I transferred it to the secondary and left it for another 2 weeks. The beer is great, very crisp and just a touch sweet. You can really taste the hops though. It ended up about 7% but you would not...

    Centenniel Pilsner IPA

Update: I added a pic of my secondary. The color is not as light as I thought that it would be. The gravity after 13 days in the primary was 1.015. I tasted the sample I pulled for the hydrometer and it was great. The hop flavors really shined through. I am going take the advice and one of the...

    Centenniel Pilsner IPA

Thanks for the feedback, I will surely post a pic after the first pour. I understand what you mean about the IBUs to gravity points. This won't raise my IBS but someone else suggested that I use 4 oz of hops to dry hop instead of 2. I am thinking about it. This has been my highest OG beer ever...

    Centenniel Pilsner IPA

This is the highest OG that I have ever done. We vorlaufed for a long time after both the mash and sparge. You think that the ABV will be 8.5? Beersmith thinks that it will be 7.1 but we will have to see. For my next brew of this gravity, I will try dry hopping with at least 3 maybe 4...
