So I brewed a chocolate milk stout yesterday. My counterflow chiller didn't get it down to temperature because we're in the middle of a heatwave were I'm at so I decided to let it sit in my fermenting fridge to drop it the rest of the way before pitching yeast. I of course sterilized my carboy...
I like being on the safe side.....I'm thinking of connecting the sparge ring to a high temp hose that connects to the HL inlet and just resting the ring on the grain bed
Hello All,
I'm currently covering my current all grain set up to a manual HERMS system. My question is about fly sparging with the HERMS recirculation. I all ready have a fly sparge ring that usually hangs between 5-10 inches (depending on batch size) above the grain bed. Is it okay to keep...
I've read many thoughts on this, but I'd like to hear some personal thoughts and experiences.
Can/Should/Have you fermented a sour beer (in glass) in a chest freezer next to clean beer?
Have you had an issues fermenting clean beer in a chest freezer that you previously fermented a sour...
So I'm going to buy a single, do it all pump. I want durability and reliability.
Which is better?
March pump H340?

or the chugger SS high temp?

From those that have done both, which of the 2 have done a better job at cooling your beer. Counterflow or HERMs coil in an ice water bath.
My concerns:
HERMs: Cleaning and sanitizing the the tube during the brewing process; at first glance it seems less efficient
Counterflow: using a lot...
So I'm renovating my whole set up and going to add a heat exchanger to my HLT to regulate my mash temp. Pumping the wort through the heat exchanger and back into the mash tun. I'm sure if you clicked on this topic you already know what I'm talking about, but just in case there it is. My question...
Thanks for all the input everyone. Looks like even with conserving water in mind, it doesn't seem worth it to recirculate the water. I may build a chill box for the water between the ground water and the chiller instead to get the water as cold as possible before it exchanges heat with the wort.
Alright everybody; so I'm in the process of rebuilding my brew system and I've been thinking of ways of making things as simple and self contained as possible. I've been seeing a lot of info recently on people recirculating their chiller water with a simple water pump to save water. I love the...
