So I plan on brewing a Theakston's Old Peculiar clone that calls for 8 oz of Lyles black treacle syrup. Any ideas on a local place to get it? LHBS doesn't have it.
I am thinking Whole Foods might have some sort of Molasses that might be a good sub.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
I don't have a small scale and am having trouble measuring the 2.5 grams of agar.
I used 1/2 teaspoon and my agar hasn't set after about 12 hours.
Anybody know the volumetric equivalent of 2.5 grams of agar (e.g. 2.5 ml, 5 ml, etc).
Thanks!
Long story short, I am about to freeze my first yeast.
I streaked a plate (petri dish) with Pacman yeast straight from a smack pack last week. The plate has been at about 70 F ever since. I just placed a loop full of it in 20ml of 1.032 wort and am waiting for it to ferment out. After it...
I have found this one:

I just had the opportunity to enjoy a Young's Special London Ale, and think it is going to be my next all grain home brew.
Anybody have any good recipes?
I noticed AHS has a clone for sale for $45!!! OUCH!
Thanks!!
I mashed at 154 for 60 minutes. I also toasted the oats at 350 deg for 12 minutes. It tasted great, I am just use to things fermenting down to 1.00x not 1.020.
Thanks!!
So I was going to bottle my oatmeal stout today, and the specific gravity of my brew was 1.020 after 14 days in the primary!! OG was 1.062. I racked to secondary instead of bottling and will see if it ferments any more.
Is this normal when using Wyeast 1084? I made a 1 liter starter 24...
After some nasty tasting beer, I am now more concerned then ever with sanitation. I bought some foam stoppers from Northern Brewer to be used on my yeast starters replacing the aluminum foil I had been using.
In the past, I prepared my starter by boiling the DME directly in the flask on the...
So I brewed up a spur of the moment pale ale using White Labs Cal Ale WLP001 that had expired over three months ago without a starter. It took nearly three days to start bubbling. Here is the recipe I used:
10.50 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 87.50 %
1.00 lb Munich Malt - 10L...
Same here... efficiency went from ~55% (consistently, although I often let crushed grain sit around for about a month in sealed bags) to 75% on first brew, brewed day after crush.
15# is the bomb. While it probably isn't worth the extra money for the bigger hopper, it sure is very very...
Well, I was going to make a starter for my next brew session, and long story short smacked the wrong yeast. Can I just stick it back in the fridge and use it in a few weeks?
I am getting a barley crusher for christmas, and smacked the pack for the brew that I didn't have the grains milled...
