Where to get Ball Valve Teflon Seals

I was doing some spring cleaning on my brewing rig and while disassembling the ball valves to clean them I founds a couple that the PTFE seal/seat had become deformed. While it was still water tight, it had collected a thick glob of gooey wort behind it. Looking online I can't seem to find...

Mash PH is always 5.0 ?

I dont have a tank for my RO. I just run it into a cooler the night before I use it. However, I do have a regular filter inline just ahead of the RO that I put there as a rough filter. It has an activated charcoal filter insert. Is it possible I am getting any kind of pickup or transfer of...

Mash PH is always 5.0 ?

I batch sparge and my efficiency is a consistent 65%. I have seen Kai test before and reviewing it now I see.03 variance could be troublsome. I'm going to go retest with my PH meter. We'll see if that confirms or voids the phenomenon.

Mash PH is always 5.0 ?

I am mostly using colorphast strips. I used to use a ph meter but i gound strips are easier. I read up on how to use them on the forum. I have also used the calibration solutions for the meter to test the strips and they are accurate.

Mash PH is always 5.0 ?

Almost 90% of the time my mash PH is 5. Despite what ezwater or brunwater tells me. I use RO water that I make from tap. The dissolved solids is 2 or less and the PH is 4.7. Most grain bills ar 2 row, carapils, and wheat or vienna. Not a lot of dark malts. I cool the wort sample so I am...

Help With Rims Rocket and thermocouples

Luckingly i found a thread that adresses this situation. The controllers with mechaical relays like the stc wont work. I am going the same route as you described. That's good confirmation though. Thanks!

Help With Rims Rocket and thermocouples

A couple of years ago my wife bought me a Hop Rocket for xmas and I have used it off and on. Now that I that do hot stands and whirpool hopping I don't use it for it's intended purpose that much. I have wanted to add a rims system and since Blichmann cam out with the 120V rims conversion kit...

    Brett Lambicus

In my understanding Brett needs some O2 expsoure to produce acetic acid. SO I would ad a new pitch of brett with 500 mls of a 1.020 starter wort. Let it eat through the starter. Then shake the starter to get some o2 into it. Add the brett starter and keep it in the 70s. I used this on a a...

    Consecration kit from MoreBeer

I bought and brewed this kits 3 years ago. KIt is good, ingredients were good, instructions were OK (back then were off on one aspect). I mashed at 156F. I fermented with the recommended Abbey Ale 2 from Wyeast starting at 66F and free rise to 75F. I racked off the yeast into a secondary and...

Made a Bottle Washer at work that clean 16 22oz at a time

Hey Garhof, 1. 1/2 ID CPBC or PVC 2. I used an all purpose PVC cement very sparingly. The risers are most held in by friction/force fit 3. The 1/4 is PEX pipe and can be found on the aisle where schedule 40 PVC pipe is (usually)

Made a Bottle Washer at work that clean 16 22oz at a time

I have been building DIY projects of this forum for three years now. It's my favorite section of homebrewtalk. I recently got hired by a place that has a CNC router table. 3 FLoyds Zombie Dust attempt. Help/info requested

I brewed this recipe 6 weeks ago. I hit all my preboil, OG, and final gravities spot on. 1 minute addition was converted to 15 minute whirlpool (recirced through pump). 72% mash efficiency. Tasting it this week I think minor tweaks will land it closer to the clone. It's a touch thin, I'll bump...

    Storing Sanitized Bottles... Outdoors

I do the same thing. About a month ago I tried a stout I had made last year that I found in a box in my office. After a year of warm storage it was a bit old, but no contamination.

    Hop Strains - Southern California

I have grown Glacier for two harvests so far in the San Fernando Valley. It is hearty and gives good yields. It seems to need more sun than other varieties so plant it in open sun with a minimum of shade being cast onto it.
