Just started the boil. Planned pre-boil OG was 1.040 and ended up at 1.050 set at 75% brew house efficiency. Hell of a system.

Totally agree. If you find what works for you then stick with it. What I have coming out of the Grainfather beats anything of the commercial variety in my opinion and I'm very much enjoying the process.

Only true way to know is just calculate your efficiency. I'm hovering in the low 80's with dialing the valve back some to just allowing a little bit to go down the pipe. I also do 90 minute mashes though too. Not changing a thing.

The most I've used was just shy of 3oz. I'm not particularly keen on IPA's so I don't anticipate using much more than that. [emoji6]

I brew with the GF the same way I have always brewed. Anything that will be coming in contact with boiling wort does not need to be sanitized beforehand as the boil itself will take care of that. As long as the system was cleaned properly initially as well as after prior brews no pre sanitizing...

Wow those times are ridiculous. Unfortunately you got a dud it would seem. I would also go option 2.

If it protrudes inside then I can see it could pose a problem getting the false bottom in as its now out of round. Did you wet the interior of the basket? It makes sliding the false bottom in much easier. Also tilt it a bit. I would get in touch with them and see what they say.

I had the same exact thing about a month ago. A giant phlegm wad floating around. It was definitely the whirlfloc tab that caused that coagulation. Beer went into the keg crystal clear last week with my gravity readings spot on.
