Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Chocolate Coffee Stout (Chocolate Jitterz)

I brewed this last year and I'm still slowing (savoring) my way through it. It is an outstanding beer. I made mine with fresh ground expresso (still warm from the grinder!) and Ghiradelli cocoa. It was a lot of work to make, but worth every bit of it!

    Sanitize in bathtub

I'd wait longer first of all. At least 3 weeks. Otherwise, no, that sounds gross. If you haven't, somebody else has peed in your tub.

    60 minutes vs shorter boils.

I've seen several recipes that call for 60 minute boils but the first hop addition is at 45 minutes. What's the point then of the first 15 minutes?

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

This was my first attempt at Brew in A bag and I'm really happy with it. Simple, fresh and light with just enough hops. it came out really clear even though I put little to no effort in that aspect of it besides 4 days at 33* before bottling. Has anybody used this base recipe and modified...

Thought I knew the styles I liked until....

IPAs seem to either be really good, or not good at all. Seems many brewerys are so hooked on hop bombs and then call them IPAs. If you can manage to find Knuckle Sandwich from Bootleggers Brewery you'll be ruined for life. It is quite possibly the best beer I've ever experienced...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Chocolate Espresso Stout

I just bottled it, complete with 4 cups of espresso from beans that were ground by a local coffee shop that roasts their own. It was still warm from the grinder when i started brewing. I had a bit and I think this will be killer. I can't wait. The sludge in the bottom looked like cocoa...

Is there anything wrong with using Nottingham for everything?

I've been wondering exactly the same thing. All liquid yeast I've used seems to have been not worth it! 005 and nottingham for me!

To reuse yeast cake or not?

Whats the best method for getting the yeast cake out? Just tip the bucket and drain it out? Thanks for the quick answer!

To reuse yeast cake or not?

I'm brewing a Russian Imperial Stout and I'm about to bottle Edworts Haus Pale Ale. Should I re use my nottingham yeast cake or go with the original plan of using 2 packets of Safeale us-05? If I do re use, should I use the exact same bucket and all, including all the smootz on the sides...

    Ale for Christmas

At first I thought I didn't like stouts. After a bit though, they moved into my #2 position (Behind the IPA). I'm thinking this is my next. However I'm not sure if it'll be fully ready by Christmas!

    brewing over a wood fire.

Great post, and as a newb myself, welcome to HBT! The rocket stove is quite neat. I think I want one!

    Inconsistent from bottle to bottle

Give it a couple more weeks warm, I think you'll get better beer!
