    ISO: Hop Drop And Roll

I would gladly trade some Hop Drop for Heady Topper. I'm in Charlotte and getting HDnR is about as easy as a case of Bud.

    One Wyeast pack, or two?

I'm brewing an imperial stout and I'm trying to decide how much yeast to pitch. It's a 3 gallon batch (on account of mash tun being unable to hold enough malt for 5 gallon high grav batch) with an est. SG of 1.066. I'm using the Wyeast Pitch Activator packs. Their site says you need one pack for...

Tripel Recipe -- does this look good?

Alright, here's what I got. Tell me if anything here seems horribly amiss: 5 gallon batch, 60 minute boil: -- 9 LB Extra Light DME -- 4 oz Belgian Aromatic -- 1.5 LB sucrose -- 1 oz East Kent Golding (7.2 AA) 60min -- 0.5 oz Northern Brewer (10.5 AA) 60min -- 1 oz Belgian Saaz (2.6 AA) 10min...

    Brewing a Tripel with DME

Thanks! Was gonna do 9 pounds DME, 2 pounds sugar for a 5 gallon batch. I'll probably go ahead and do some aromatic and maybe a couple others.

    Brewing a Tripel with DME

Hey guys, looking to brew a tripel using extract. Was gonna use light DME as the base, but will it be beneficial to steep a pound or so of Vienna, Aromatic, and/or Pilsner malt to add to my wort, or should I go all DME and let the yeast and hops carry the flavor profile? I've seen some differing...

Black IPA grain bill -- thoughts?

Hey guys, looking to brew my first Black IPA. Going for something strong, in the 8-9 ABV range. Doing a 5 gallon batch. Does this look good? Any suggestions? Boil: -- 9 pounds light dry malt extract Steep: -- 8 oz American Victory -- 6 oz American Black -- 6 oz Carafa III -- 4 oz American...

    OG readings are too low

Well that pretty well cleared it up for me. Thanks!

    OG readings are too low

Yes, from reputable source. I do top them with water. Should I take a hydrometer reading from a 60 degree wort sample?

    OG readings are too low

They are extract kits with steeping of specialty malts, as well.

    OG readings are too low

I've now made two brews, both using recipe kits. Both times my OG readings have come in considerably lower than what the kit says they should be. I read elsewhere that this may be caused by the wort and water not being fully mixed in my primary when I take some out of the top for my hydrometer...

    Adding coffee to stout recipe

Alright, definitely gonna use the cold-brewing technique. Thoughts on adding the cold-brewed coffee directly to the primary and not using a secondary?

    Adding coffee to stout recipe

How much coffee would you recommend per 5 gallons using this method?

    Adding coffee to stout recipe

I'm using a recipe kit for an American Stout, and I'd like to add coffee to it. I've read some of the possible techniques, but was wondering if anyone had advice on adding ground coffee to the steep. Read somewhere that 4-8oz of ground coffee in the steep will produce a good coffee flavor w/o...

    Adding spices to ale

Thanks, guys. Was considering adding some fresh grated nutmeg to the mix, but as I said, don't want the spicing to be too prominent. Maybe I'll add just a 1/4 tsp of it.
