    the taste of bac. contamination

I have had varied results with Kolsch yeast. Sometimes you can't walk by the carboy without the elephant fart smell, but I have 2 batches now that neither one gave any off smells. They were both fermented in the coolest part of the basement, which varied b/w 58-63F since start of activity. I...

    Laziest yeast ever -

I brew a wit w/ WLP400 probably 3 times / year. SWMBO loves this style. This is a beer that I pitch and then bring up out of the basement where it's warmer. I have had yeast blow out of the airlock probably 70+% of the time, but never a slow finish. However, I usually do this one at around 70F...

HELP! First batch tastes like water?!!!

Another question is how to turn this around for the current batch. I made the exact same problem a few batches ago - tasted like very weak beer out of the keg - the answer I came up with - drop 2 oz of dry hop into the keg(in a muslin bag), let it sit until it went from hop tea taste to dry...

    German style ale

I wanted to make a nice Alt beer this weekend. The recipe I cooked up was this 9.25 # 2-row .75 # 120L crystal malt Mash @ 153-154 for 90 minutes Sparge and boil 6.5 gal @90 minutes - 1 oz Northern Brewer @ 7.5 AA @15 minutes - 1 oz First Gold (never used before, smells sharp, spicy) @3...

    Efficency calculation correct ?

That's about what I got too. I think I used slightly different theoretical max values, which is why I was showing 91%. That's awesome then. It was a long wait for the sparge, but hitting upwards of 85% in eff. is great! Thanks for the numbers. Having another calculation to double check against...

    Efficency calculation correct ?

Post boil. Went from 6.5 gal -> 5.5 gal over 90min

    Efficency calculation correct ?

I brewed a batch of beer today, which was 9#4oz British 2row and 12oz 120L crystal malt. I ended up w/ an OG of 1.060. When I did some quick calculations, it looks to me like there is a possible total of 35.5 gallon points theoretical max, where as I ended up with 33 gallon points. This would be...

    More Barley Crusher success

+1 on the barley crusher. I made 2 batches in 2 days, and hit the numbers quoted in Clone Brews. They are assuming a 70% efficiency -> 5 gal, but I'm getting those #'s w/ 5.5 gal after boil.
