    How to keep brewing?

Start Kegging, and then use them to hold themed block parties. You'll be the most popular family in the neighborhood, a win in the wife's book...just don't let the neighborhood kids know that you have a mountain of kegs in your garage.

Greetings from the beach of NC

that's excellent news, both about Lumina and about the Wilmington members. I look forward to being a contributing member. Have there been many meetings between the NC members to try each other's brews? I just checked out Lumina's website, $60 for a full kit and $20-$30 for the...

Greetings from the beach of NC

i have roommates, two dogs and a cat in the house, in the loft I'll only have one (mildly active) 60lb GSD. I'm too preoccupied with fixing my car at the moment, which I promised myself would be done before I moved.

Greetings from the beach of NC

Hi, I've never brewed beer before, nor do I have the space or resources to. For now, I'll be lurking here trying to soak up all the knowledge I can in preparation for when I move into my loft this summer and finally have my own space to do with as I please. This loft has a laundry room with...

    Co2 Wort Chiller

if by that you mean dry ice, I don't think so. The liquid->gas phase change is the key, and dry ice will go straight from a solid to a gas.

    Co2 Wort Chiller

you're right about co2 being a liquid under pressure, but it's the pressure that is keeping it a liquid. with the temperatures we're dealing with it is naturally a gas. I was counting on the phase change to be the cooling mechanism, not necessarily its low temperature. Of course, as already...

    Co2 Wort Chiller

The simplest answer is usually the right one. I'll try it out when I get my brew closet set up in August, but I suppose I should tone down the high hopes.

    Co2 Wort Chiller

siphon tubes can be installed into a Co2 tank for ~$20, it only requires removal of the valve, and it's always stored as a liquid inside the tanks. I was thinking it'd take maybe 16oz. to cool 3 gallons bleeding over just a couple of minutes, averaging about $2 in Co2 per batch, but i base this...

    Co2 Wort Chiller

I've been doing a little lurking, and the preferred method of wort chilling seems to be running cold water through length of copper pipe, taking about 15 minutes. While this certainly works, it seems to me that Co2 would be a much faster cooling medium. The idea would be nearly identical to a...
