Has anyone made a Czech Pils on the BrewEasy? I'm trying to determine how to build the (very soft) water and if I should add any specialty malts to make sure there is some body. Any thoughts?
I use the lbhs so I don't know for sure They started to crush for a local brewery at the beginning of the year. Since then my efficiency jumped about five points. It has a little bit of flour but looks pretty solid.
I get about 72% using danam's methods. Except I drain off about .75-1 gpm. I check the gravity before draining and after. The difference is negligible with draining at .5 gpm.
I did a 22 gallon batch in 6.5 hours this weekend with two people. The first 30 minutes though doesn't really count, as all I do is hit the on button and then go make/eat breakfast.
I use a plate chiller but there is little difference. I have the kettle on top of the burner. The wort goes from the exit to the pump to the plate chiller and then either back into the kettle or into the fermenter.
If you have enough height, you could gravity feed. I use 1/2" silicone tubing...
Here is the checklist I put together. I think I did most things but I did not follow it to a "t".
Recipe Formulation
Create Recipe
Adjust hops for AA differences
Determine water profile
Determine Salt Additions
Before buying ingredients
Check equipment (tubing, disconnects...
Danam, I was wondering if you had a checklist for the BrewEasy? I am looking to go from winging brewing to paying more attention to get better results. I have made good beer so far but I want to get more consistent results and brew faster by not scrambling.
I found the video really helpful. I guess I will be getting a PH meter.
I also live in Florida and have been using a Therminator. The method that works best for me on a 12 gallon batch is to use a two step cooling method. First, I run the garden hose through the water side at a moderate to...
I finally took the time to build a hop spider after brewing a PTE clone. It was worth the time and money. If I could just find a better bag that attached better to the hop spider that would be nice.
Using the Therminator and recirculating a 12 gallon batch took about 15-20 minutes to reach 80 degrees with 70 degree groundwater. From there I would drain into the fermenters. With excess pellet hops it could get clogged and slow things down. Also note I chose to decrease the entire batch to 80...
Lead times appear to be down for people ordering the BrewEasy. It took one week for me to receive the 20 gallon gas system without the tower of power.
My mash tun did not have a hole punched so I am waiting on getting that swapped out. I was brewing yesterday anyways so I brewed a recirculating...
