First hefeweizen - Tweaking the receipie

This would basically be the setup. The plan was to do this and then replace the airlock after the initial aggressive fermentation had stopped.

First hefeweizen - Tweaking the receipie

Well I have the coopers fermenting bucket so it doesn't come with an option for a blow off, so I was asking if it would be possible to set one up somehow considering how aggressive the yeast is. This is the airlock http://www.autho-rity.info/brew2/fixing_airlock.JPG

First hefeweizen - Tweaking the receipie

I have done a partial boil of the coopers kits a few times and they turned out pretty well, even though some have mentioned they aren't really meant for it. Instead of doing a full 30-45 minute boil I will usually heat 2 gallons of water a bit below boiling, add the canned extract, stir, add the...

First hefeweizen - Tweaking the receipie

I will use the recommended sugars then. Also, the airlock hole on the fermenter is quite small, maybe slightly bigger than .25 of an inch. The blow off hose would be pretty small, but I'm assuming as long as the foam has somewhere to go it shouldn't be a problem. I don't think it will pop the...

First hefeweizen - Tweaking the receipie

This will be my 8th brew. I've used all coopers brew kits so far and have had great success, I really think their kits are great for beginners. I plan on brewing the "Thomas" version of the coopers hefeweizen. First off, a few modifications: The yeast that comes with the kit is a standard ale...

    How important is good water?

I've used bottled water for all of my brews so far. I usually pickup the gallon jugs of spring water and all of my beers have tasted great. If in doubt about your water quality, I don't think you can really go wrong with bottled water from the store. If you want to be really picky you can boil...

Is my beer kit too old?

I have some Nottingham Ale Yeast that I intend to use with it which I just recently purchased, so I will not be using the old coopers yeast. It has been kept in our basement, around 70F.

Is my beer kit too old?

I have 2 coopers kits (cerveza and canadian blonde) that I never got around to using last year. The "use by date" says April, 2010. Is the kit too old to produce some decent brew with? I'd like to use them but don't want to waste the time if they wont produce a decent batch.

Little sign of activity -Too late to repitch?

This is week 2 (brewed on 2/20) of my 5th homebrew. I brewed the Coopers Mexican Cerveza with their brew enhancer 2 (a combo of dextrose, maltodextrin and Light Dry Malt, 1KG total). I used Nottingham Ale yeast, not the standard coopers yeast. I used the coopers yeast in my past 4 brews, and was...

Coopers Canadian Blonde - Yeast Question

Brewing a Coopers Canadian Blonde. I've lost the packets of coopers yeast that come with the kits (never had great results with them anyway). Any suggestions on yeasts for this brew? I've been out of the homebrew game for almost a year and lost all of my links for these things. Also, any...

When do I add the sugar?

Noted for next time, will do. Although how long should I boil the LME? I'm not adding anything else other than the sugar, so should I go for around 20-30 minutes? I went for somewhere between 20-30.

When do I add the sugar?

This is pretty much exactly what I did. This is my second batch so I wanted to try the boil method. On my first batch I just dumped everything in like coopers instructions said, but learned that the boil method can create some better flavors. Sounds like I'll be ok. thanks!

When do I add the sugar?

I added it at the end of the boil, so it didnt boil for very long. It still all looked pretty good when i poured it into the fermenter. I didn't have any sugar stuck to the bottom or clumps or anything

When do I add the sugar?

I'm following the How-to-Brew book by Palmer and I am using the boil method for my LME. I have coopers brand LME and Brew enhancer 1. My question is, when do I add the BE1 to the mix? Do I add it during the boil, or do I add it after I pour the boil into the fermenter? Thanks!

Beer looks great, but tastes a bit off

I used the provided sugar for the kit I had. From what I've read, the standard coopers brewing sugar is almost all sucrose. My next batch i am going to use the brew enhancer 2 with contains dextrose, maltodextrin and light dry malt. The boil method seems to be the way to go with liquid extracts...
