    First All Grain

I agree. Just do a single hop of citra without the cascade. I too think citra would overpower the cascade. I have found the same to be true with Galaxy. No matter what I put with I only taste the Galaxy. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Whirlpooling thoughts

I ended up doing two steeps one right after it stopped boiling for 30 minutes and then another right after that for an additional 30 minutes (wort temp was around 165F after the first thirty minutes). I left my kettle lid on the entire time other than when I would stir every 5 minutes. I am...

    Bucket Spigot

I have spigots on most of my fermenters, its easier than a siphon and cuts down on oxygen getting into your beer during transfer. I would drill your hole a couple of inches from the bottom. I did once have a spigot that leaked a little during fermentation so make sure that it is clean and tight.

    Whirlpooling thoughts

I wanted to get input on whirlpooling hops. I have never done this but am going to try it out tomorrow. Going to make an ipa with a OG of around 1.070. I am going to use .75 warrior for bittering at 60 minutes and 1.5 galaxy at flame out and let it steep for 30 ish minutes. I was looking at...

    Thoughts on receipe

I have Maris otter too. I could do 8 lbs each of two row and Maris and 1 lb of crystal 60. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Thoughts on receipe

I wanted to try and combine my two favorite hops mosaic and galaxy. I am trying to go for more flavor and aroma and it not be overly bitter. Thanks in advance. 14 lbs 2 row 2 lbs crystal 60 . 5 oz warrior for 60 min 1.5 oz mosaic 15 minutes 1.5 oz galaxy 15 minutes 1.5 oz mosaic 5 minutes 1.5...

What is this stuff in my glass?

Brewed a single hop ipa and moved it to the keg to carbonate on Monday. I have this stuff (looks like black flecks) floating in my glass. I can't tell what it is and when I try to get it out of the glass it's like it disappears. Beer tastes fine but it's bugging me. Any ideas?

    Fermenting in a bottling bucket

I would think the risk of infection after fermentation is fairly low compared to before. It's not about siphoning for me really, even though I would rather use a a spigot than a siphon. I guess what I am trying to figure out is if you keg why not ferment in a bucket with a spigot? I can dry...

    Best propane burner?

I got the Bayou Classic SP1 Jet Cooker on amazon for around 45$. I can get 6 gallons of water boiling in less than 20 minutes.

    Fermenting in a bottling bucket

I don't bottle so I really don't need a bottling bucket. I am just trying to find ways to save time, sanitation and transfers. I would think if you take the spigot apart each time and clean/sanitize it well there can't be much risk. Seems easier to do this to a spigot than a siphon.

    Fermenting in a bottling bucket

Thanks for the link man I really appreciate it. Already ordered the gamma seal lid on amazon. Looking forward to just using my carboy for loose change.

    Fermenting in a bottling bucket

Two brews in and I'm tired of my 6.5 gallon glass carboy. To hard to clean and to slippery when wet. Any issues with fermenting in a bottling bucket? It seems like you could use a standard one or buy a fermenter and drill a hole slightly higher than normal so the spigot sits above the yeast...

    Attenuation question

Thanks, that is great info. I will try the calculator on my next round. I think in the future, given a similar OG, I will use more yeast or make a starter. Twice in a row is enough to make my try something different.

    Attenuation question

On the first batch, no. I moved it to dry hop in my keg after 7 days (2 days of gravity reading that were the same). This second batch is still fermenting and I am dry hopping in my primary this time. I will check and see what my gravity is at the end of dry hopping before moving to a keg...

    Attenuation question

I did follow it as stated in the directions. Directions indicated to move to secondary, keg for me, to dry hop after 5-7 days of fermentation. I did move it after 7 days and I had stable gravity reads on my hydrometer for two straight days. I will try more yeast next time. Is there a OG...
