    Inconsistent carbonation with cane sugar

Hi All, I have been brewing since 4/2007. I have made 12 5 gal. brews so far. I have two favorites, an IPA and a Porter which I have been alternating brewing for the last four brews. So far, so great! An issue that has occurred in two brews (an American Wheat and a Porter) is that the...

    My last brew day.

Lookin' good! BTW, you frightened me with the title of your post. It should have read, "My most recent brew day"!!

    Saving money...washing/reusing yeast

For freezing yeast I read you should mix in glycerin. I had a heck of a time finding any. I finally found some at Rite Aid in the facial products area. Anyone know of a place to find it in bigger bottles?

Corn flakes for flaked maize ?

Yes, Buford, it tastes like a skunk but if you squeeze a lime wedge into the bottle it almost neutralizes the skunk smell. Well, maybe not. Wait, maybe if you squeeze in a tomato . . .

Corn flakes for flaked maize ?

Hey Brewman ! How'd it turnout? My wife loves Corona as well. I have a question about the clear bottles Corona uses. How do they get away with that? I suppose the question is why, if Corona uses clear (and Miller, too) why do other big commercial brewers use brown? Or green?

Total rookie from the Pacific Northwest!!

Greetings Danimal, I too am new to the art and also in the Pacific Northwest, in Puyallup Washington if you know where that is. I started in April and have brewed two beers thus far, a brown porter and an India Pale Ale. The porter is bottled and going fast and is much, much better than I...

    Patience: Seeking Advice

I might even take a flashlight and look through that little hole where the stopper goes to see if the krausen has formed or there is that ring above the beer on the bucket like Yooper Chick says. I made only my second batch on Sat. and have not seen the airlock on my plastic bucket bubble a...

    First Brew a Success!

At the beginning of May I began my journey to what I hope will be many years of study and pleasure brewing my own beer. I have studied threads on this forum intently and read all of Palmer's book (twice) before I began. My first foray was a "Port-O-Palmer" Porter, all extract. I have to say...

    "No Sparge Method"

I've heard that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's, but still I'd use something else to sanitize my bottles.

Yeast Starter in a plastic bottle?

It does help, Muss. Thank you. The starter looks good now; lots of yeasties on the bottom.

Yeast Starter in a plastic bottle?

My starter is going now. I used 1 pint of water, 1/2 cup DME with a little hops, 1/4 tsp. yeast nutrient and a vial of White Labs London Ale yeast. Looks good so far. According to Palmer's book this should be good enough for a 5 gal brew with a 1.040 OG. In his section on making a starter he...

Well thank you very much, all. I have many new ideas now! I appreciate you all taking the time to respond. If I have any issues I'll report back.

Yeast Starter in a plastic bottle?

I am going to make a yeast starter for my next batch, a Hef. I've not used a starter before. I was looking for a good glass bottle to use and found to my dismay that no one makes glass bottles anymore! Everything is plastic! I thought one of those Clamato bottles would be good because of the...

    1st Brew Q's

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all the support you all are giving me. Thanks very much! This is a great MB! (I'll have to contribute, won't I? =)) As to the 2 packets of yeast, I was confused because I remember reading a line somewhere where Palmer says, "The second packet is...

    1st Brew Q's

Oh, thank you!!! It is bubbling away. I was panicking that I already wrecked my first try. Thanks for your answers to my water Q's as well. I will make sure to boil all of my water. I'll get some thermometers from Wal-Mart for the outside of the fermenter. Is this a great hobby or what!
