Thanks for the help. The grapes are white to golden so I would assume white. He got the vines from a nursery a few years ago and they fruit out like crazy. The flavor is slightly acidic but not to bad. I did a little reading and came across the term “top off”. How does this work...
Hey guys,
Im a total noob to wine making. Been brewing for years and wandered over here. My dad grows a bunch of scuppernongs every summer and Ive always talked about making some wine. What are the bullet points I need to know? As a brewer, Ive looked through Northern Brewers wine kits...
My main concern was the amount of liquid I left in the mash tun. But from what I've read today your infusion water to get to mash out temp is viewed as the first batch of sparge water. I probably put to much sparge/mash out water into the tun while mashing out/sparging but I think I got low...
Things went pretty well. I missed my target mash temp by 1 degree:ban: At mash out I dropped over 3 gallons of boiling water (Im using the Gott cooler tun) and only got my temp up to 164. I held the temp for 10 mins and stared sparge. I got a stuck sparge and started over. I only used 12 quarts...
Thanks for the reply. I only have one gas line so what I was thinking was purge and sit while I drink what's on tap. Given that I probably want to lager for 2 months, I'll probably tap what I haven't even brewed yet (brown ale).
What are your techniques for Lagering with a keg? Currently I have a pilsner that went primary for 2 weeks at 52 and then secondary for a week at 46. I want to brew another batch, but only have one fermentation fridge. I have a one tap kegerator with a temp set down to 34 that i could use to...
Thanks for the info guys. This will be very helpful. I understand the need for caution and experience when building a stand. I have made a few batches using my brew kettle as a HLT and only using the one burner stand. This takes forever so at this point I just want something that will allow me...
Full disclosure: I dont know what Im doing. I have made a few batches of all-grain with just my cooler Mash/Lauter tun and my brew kettle. I have immediately seen how futile this is and would like to build a tiered setup. I have looked all over this site and goggled many other designs. I like...
Thanks for the advice. I was wondering about off flavors. I'm semi-new to this and was always of the mindset that kettles need to be stainless to avoid off flavors, so I thought the same would be true for a sparge tank.
Im trying to put together an equipment list for my step into All Grain. I have the kettle and a cooler for my Mash tun. I want to fly sparge, but I need a vessel. I have found cheap 60 qt Aluminum pots, but I didnt know if this would be a bad thing.
