First time using lager yeast. Burnt rubber smell/taste...time to pitch?

Thank you for your advice man! I will let it chill and see if the aroma/taste escapes itself. I think for now I'm gonna just brew ales until I get the proper knowledge and equipment for lagers.

First time using lager yeast. Burnt rubber smell/taste...time to pitch?

It was in the primary for two weeks as for the recipe called for it. I pitched one vial of the WLP810 and no starter. I should have had a starter but had no time to get it going before the brew day. I chilled the wort down to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The wort did not have any activity for two days...

First time using lager yeast. Burnt rubber smell/taste...time to pitch?

Hey now! I just transferred my winter warmer to the secondary and have discovered a burnt rubber smell and taste. This is the first time I have ever used a lager yeast(WLP810). After reading John Palmer's, "How to Brew" I believe I've personally experienced autolysis. I think I fermented at too...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Summer/Winter Solstice Clone

I plan on brewing this next weekend and was wondering if anybody added vanilla beans to the secondary as opposed to the extract at bottling time? And if so, how many beans did you add to a 5 gallon batch?

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Hey now! Anybody bottle this? After 8 days of bottle conditioning my brew is flat. I know, minimum of 3 weeks at 70 degrees to achieve proper carbonation. When I transferred it to the secondary I used a hop bag at the end of my cane to filter the brew better. Starting to think that was a bad...

1 Lb of Nugget and 1 Lb of Northern Brewer

Hey guys! So I got a pound of nugget and northern brewer pellet hops. I was wondering if anybody had any recipes where it calls for these hops together. I found a imperial porter that uses this hop combination but no recipe. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was even thinking about doing...

    Refractometer

I bought a similar one on eBay 2 months ago. It worked fine and I got the same readings as I did using my hydrometer. Mine is a double scale so the scales are small and kind of hard to read. I got good eyesight so it's fine for me. Also, download the More Beer spreadsheet for an easy...

    Mason's Smoked Porter

Hey Mason. First off I must say your profile picture is awesome. That movie is great! I plan on brewing this tomorrow. I was wondering what your efficiency is. Mine is around 77% so I was thinking of cutting back on the grain bill to get around the 6.5% ABV.
