    NHC / NHBC 2020

No prob! Comps are always subjective and it isn't always an exact science, but I definitely recommend checking out the BJCP guidelines to help analyze your brews. Helps give you a better idea of what category would match it best. As for the feedback in NHC, don't expect a ton. Scoresheets are...

    NHC / NHBC 2020

While there is nothing wrong with adding any adjuncts to this beer, just know that if you do, it is no longer to style as a brown ale. It would be a SHV beer (Spice, Herb, Vegetal), so you'd want to pop it in that category so that it could be judged appropriately.

    National Homebrew Competition 2019

Nice to finally see the results for Minneapolis post tonight. Took 3rd in American IPA, which I am stoked about. Here's to brewing a few batches to prep for the finals Congrats to everyone else who made it as well!

    National Homebrew Competition 2019

I think we're technically on day 14 from the day judging was originally supposed to conclude (March 24th), so sitting at two weeks. The other two regions that judged the same weekend were posted a week ago though, so I was hopeful last week that Minneapolis would've been posted by the weekend...

    National Homebrew Competition 2019

Any word from them at all? Really hoping that we'll get some news here from the Minneapolis region within the next day or two.

    National Homebrew Competition 2019

I got the same email on the 2nd as well, so that could be the case. I did hear they were a bit short on volunteers, but I would've thought the status would've sat at "Judging" if they were still truly judging entries, yet it changed to "Verifying Results" a day or two after the last judging...

    National Homebrew Competition 2019

Anyone have any insight on the Minneapolis region? Still waiting for results to post, but saw SF and NY posted yesterday and held judging the same weekend as Minne. Last year, Minneapolis posted fairly quick (within 7 days from judging anyway). I didn't make the cut last year, which was my...

Is US-05 known to start slow?

I just used US-05 the other day for the first time in awhile (mostly utilize liquid yeast strains now). As a small batch brewer, I tossed the entire packet into 1.5 gallons of wort and holy cow - damn thing nearly EXPLODED after 12 hours! Checked my ferm chamber and krausen was spewing out of...

Anyone going to the 2018 Homebrew Con in Portland Oregon?

Would love to be there, but I should've taken my chance last year when it was in Minneapolis (since I'm in Iowa). Hoping for somewhere a bit closer next year, but either way, I'm going to try to make it out if I am able to swing it! Until then, I'll just be brewing, brewing, and brewing some...

47 hops anyone order from them

I ordered on May 11th and still nothing yet, but in a Reddit thread, I heard they were just catching up this weekend and were hoping to have orders placed up until May 10th shipped yesterday. I am guessing I won't see them for another week, which isn't terrible since I have a freezer filled...

    BIAB and clarity

I have had good success with the following (and I squeeze the bag to extract as much as I can): - Irish moss @ 15 minutes left in the boil - Rapid chilling for a solid cold break - Cold crash at 38 degrees F before kegging - Fining with Biofine Clear in the keg Beer is basically crystal clear...

Sending Beer Mail - Newbie with Questions

Thanks for posting this, as I am getting ready to send a buddy of mine some of my "bbq sauce" :) Will most likely go UPS for this. Just sending a 22 ounce bomber down for this round. We will see how it goes!

    Skunky smell at bottling

Last summer, I wanted to do some sort of shandy. Brewed a wheat beer and rather than adding in any lemonade into the beer at bottling (didn't want to throw off the level of sugar and potentially over-carb), I just poured my beer into a glass and added a splash of lemonade. Turned out to be...
