    Gold Bond Cork Caps

I recently bought a vintage Climax bottle capper on ebay because my Red Barron will not grip certain beer bottles. I had used one and I like the old school, solid metal design of the Climax. The capper came with a box of vintage Gold Bond caps with the cork lining. The printed price on the box...

    I like it.

    My first lager

Here’s the twin 3 gal carboys now. Should be 4.5 gallons to drink. I had a chance to add 1/2 gal water to go from 1.055 to 1.049 OG but I chose to leave it.

    My first lager

I have decided to ramp up the thermostat today (day 10). I haven’t ever done a secondary fermentor. This batch is in a pair of 3 gallon carboys. Everthing else I have is 1 gallon except my 6 gal Ale Pail bucket and that won’t fit in my fridge w/ thermostat with the airlock on. Always something...

    My first lager

Hmm. I have not used gelatin yet.

    My first lager

My first lager ever is rounding 2 weeks at a chill 52F right now. Fermentation has slowed to a near stop and it’s visibly clearing up. I would love nothing better than to bottle it for a 1 month turnaround grain to beer in a glass but I am worried about the usual stuff. Looking for finishing...

    Fix it or leave it?

This was a month ago. I made my first session beer at 2.7 ABV. It’s good.

    Fix it or leave it?

Just to be clear, I left it.

    Fix it or leave it?

My light Bavarian Hefe session beer. One month later I wanted to give an update on this beer I made. It came out at 2.7 ABV but the taste is really good. I gave it normal carbonation when I bottled 2 weeks ago. It has the citrus flavors from the wheat yeast and if anything, I could handle more...

    Fix it or leave it?

I had tasted it earlier before cooling/topping with water, but I don’t recall tasting from hydro sample. It tasted good at the time. I don’t think I could get another hefe together very quickly—I’m in Hawai’i and at the mercy of Amazon. Maybe by next weekend maybe not. I do have 2.2 lbs of...

    Fix it or leave it?

You are correct I forgot that’s per gallon. Darn that seems like a lot to add. It’s already fermenting like crazy after 6 hours of pitching. I used .8 oz. of Tettnang so I’m hoping if I leave it it will be ok as far as taste goes. Oh, and I can’t say I’ve ever had a session beer haha.

    Single Decoction for BIAB

I really should of checked back here before I brewed today. I tried a 4 gal BIAB in a 4 gal pot. Sure enough OG was super low.

    Fix it or leave it?

I just brewed my 4th batch today—supposed to be an all-grain Bavarian Hefe. My first all-grain batch and well... Here’s what happened: -I ordered milled grain from Amazon but it looked ok as far as I could tell. Wheat and pilsner. -I adjusted the recipe down to 4 gallons because I only have a 4...

    Single Decoction for BIAB

Thank you all for responding. Now I am sure that a concoction is out of the question for this round. Yes, I need a bigger pot and for that I need a more powerful burner. I also need a bigger fermentor etc. Little by little. I want to keep trying new things, but just 1 at a time. If my goal this...

    Single Decoction for BIAB

I was thinking of trying my first all-grain mash with a recipe for a Weizenbier. It calls for a single decoction. Is this possible with a BIAB method? Does it matter or can I just ignore it? This will be my 4th brew. My 3rd was bottled 2 days ago, ~4.3 gallons of an American IPA made with LME. I...
