Unfortunately, I dont know what I'm really doing so I didn't check the OG but defiantly will do on my second batch. But glad to hear I'm on my way. I haven't opened the bucket at all I ended up buying vinyl tube and stick it though the airlock and suck the brew to a container to check gravity...
I'm brewing an IPA and its been going for 9 days now. I took a reading 2 days ago 1.010 and just today 1.010(but to me looks very slightly going below 1.009, maybe mistaken). I understand I'm looking for a consistent specific gravity reading which seems to be what I have. But, below if you look...
Zen_Brew great point that you make."Hell, every time you eat out at a restaurant you are using glasses and silverware that have had peoples funky mouths all over them right?"
I think I'm going glass beer bottles if I can get a local bar to donate or I can find "local beverage center"...
Thanks to all of you for your great responses!
I'm leaning a little to 1 litre carbonated water bottles. I'm not sure if I want to clean glass bottles I have not idea where they have been.
>But still wondering of a FREE & somewhat cleaner solution to bottle<
I wonder if Wine bottles would...
Thanks for the responses. Petey glad to hear I'm not the only one to try this. My main concern is creating a bottle bomb and of course skunking the beer.
>>Has any one used 1 liter bottles for carbing?<<
I'm thinking of going 1 liter sparkling carb water bottle but I'm afraid it maybe to much...
I would greatly appreciate any recommendations/ideas on cheap bottling solutions. Cheaper than 2 cases of glass bottles $40+ with caps or PET bottles $35+ with caps. I'm newbe not wanting to invest to much into this endeavor so I was thinking 2 litter soda/sparkling water bottles or 1 litter...
What about cheap carbing bottle options? Found these for .70 that's $14 total bottling per 5 gallon brew vs pet which is $40 bottling 5gallons. These bottles seem have nice caps and could handle the pressure. What do you think...
Thanks for the quick response! Next steps for a rookie??
1. I have read about hydrometers so I'm going to wait out the airlock bubbling then get a reading of specific gravity with the hydrometer till it is steady reading for a few days. Then should I bottle?? I have heard people leaving it in...
I just did the same thing for four days(did not put water in the airlock). Am I in any danger of bacteria ect? And the second I placed the water into my airlock it has been bubbling every 10-12 sec or so. Does this sound about normal or have a screwed up this batch? Also just a thought if you...
