brewing vs. happy wife - kitchen shared

I wonder if a Tokyo apartment is as small as one in Sao Paulo :) You really need an understanding partner when you brew AG in a 400 sq ft apartment :)

    Speisse or Krausening

Thanks for the tips. I agree priming with sugar would save the headaches.. but I guess in a way I wanted to try to Speisse method. I found a handy calculator online for calculating speisse qauntity factoring OG and volume. I think I'm gonna split the batch and try it.. I'm willing to...

    Speisse or Krausening

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. I didn't have a glass jar big enough, so I had to improvise. I did of course wash and sanitize the jug.. Is there any way I can find out, perhaps tasting it will be proof enough. I could always boil it again.. not sure if that would so the trick. Still on...

    Speisse or Krausening

It's me again asking for help... I made a 30 liter batch of Weisse, and I confess i'm not much of a fan, but i made it for friends who insisted. The recipe called for approx 4 liters of "Speisse" to be added at bottling. The recipe called for 5-7 days in the primary then rack into the...

brewing vs. happy wife - kitchen shared

BTW, I used to brew inside, it's a mess and clean up is a bear. Unless you can improve your system installing hose barge and high quality valves on everything.. you still drip sticky wort and you still spill water.. at least I do. I moved into a top floor apartment with a terrace. I brew...

Wait a minute.. so my new fly sparge set up won't save me time on brew day? I that batch sparging was killing my productivity....

Pitched two weeks ago and nothing..advice?

The beer turned out great! Sorry I forgot to post back. The recipe is a definite keeper . Started out as a Bell's Oberon clone, but I can't get Bells in Brazil so I can't harvest yeast from the bottle. It evolved into a hoppy American Summer Wheat Ale that gives me great pleasure and a bit of...

Cloudy Hefeweizen - let it sit in secondary, or bottle??

That's encouraging. I made a 30 liter batch of Weisse, and I confess i'm not much of a fan, but i made it for friends who insisted. The recipe called for approx 4 liters of "Speisse" to be added at bottling. The recipe called for 5-7 days in the primary then rack into the bottling bucket with...

Pitched two weeks ago and nothing..advice?

uhhhh sorry guys.. I found that the lid on my fermenting bucket was not 100% tight. That along with the additional head space probably made for a calmer fermenting process. 1.014.. I guess I'm good (as long as i haven't gotten any contamination from the bucket not being 100% sealed... Thanks...

Pitched two weeks ago and nothing..advice?

right... my concern is that the last time I brewed this beer, the fermentation was rampant enough to blow the rubber stopper out of my carboy in the first 24 hours. The water in the bucket and the hose are completely clean.. thats what makes me nervous. Sanitizing now, will be taking a gravity...

Pitched two weeks ago and nothing..advice?

Hi there, I made a summer wheat ale two weeks ago just before taking a trip. I pitched SafAle US05 directly out of the package. I have been using the safAle for a long time with NO issues, always "pitch and forget" method. This time something went wrong. The last time I brewed this recipe...

All grain recipe over boil.. add water to fermenter?

Thanks. The last time I brewed this recipe I had active fermentation within 12 hours and actually had to swicth to a blow off hose after 24 hours. It has now been 16 hours and I haven't seen the first bubble, so I'm a little concerned about that. But I guess tht's good if I want to be able to...

All grain recipe over boil.. add water to fermenter?

Hi, I am realatively new to all grain, this is my 6th batch. I seemed to be way low on my preboil gravity, so i opted to extend the boil to 90 minutes. ( the batch was estimated at 10% above the final volume I wanted anyway so I thought i would be ok). as I turns out I boiled down a 25 liter...
