I did transfer closed. The top has a gas ball lock that in hook up to Co2 to replace the volume of liquid leaving through the bottom drain. Worked like a charm. I only opened it after the transfer to see how close to the bottom/trub I was.

I closed it back up after transferring to the corny keg so things wouldn't dry out and get caked on too bad

Truth be told, I'm in the middle of finishing a basement, remodeling my brew rig, working full time and keeping 3 children alive .. haven't had a chance yet to fill it and use it. It's been holding 8 psi for a couple months now, so once it's cleaned up and filled I'll have to report back

Alright, I've had a turn of events in the past 24 hrs. To begin with, I ended up bidding on and winning 11 sankes in good shape (most brand new), and 15 corny kegs from a brewery going out of business. So I offered up for sale most of these kegs. Lo and behold a guy from just down the street...

Can you ferment in a factory sanke keg with a d type coupler and blowoff from the gas port? I have no experience with sanke style kegs, but came into some legally and want to experiment with fermenting in them.

Y'all are awesome. Spent 3 weeks (among work, 3 small kiddos, etc, etc) tracking down what I thought was stripped insulation in my pump wiring causing the GFCI to trip in the face of functioning hlt element. Quick search through hbt and bingo, problem solved.

How many rinses should a guy do after he runs this solution through the brewery plumbing? Just heat some clean water up to 180 and rinse the chiller and herms for a few minutes?

Since posting, the keg seen in the floor in one of the first pics has been turned into a bottom drain mash tun with false bottom from stainless brewing. I've also got a window AC I was going to use for a glycol chiller, but never got around to building that I will throw in.
