3 gallon or 5 gallon mash tun?

I've done a couple extract brews, but am thinking of going to partial mash recipes. I'm looking at getting a mash tun, but was wondering if I should go with a 3 gallon or 5 gallon converted cooler. The only thing I've heard is that a 5 gallon mash tun is more difficult to regulate the proper...

    New & what to do?

My girlfriend bought me a starter kit (fermenter, carboy, etc) for my birthday. Made my first batch in June (IPA from Brewer's Best). It turned out okay, but seems to be a little too bitter. For the record, I love IPA's. My next batch (Caribou Slobber, brown ale, from Northern Brewer) was...

    Hello from Maine!

My brown ale is also Caribou Slobber. Been bottle conditioning for two weeks now. Tried one last night and it was pretty good. Might need to sit a little longer though.

    Hello from Maine!

That's awesome. I've only two brews under my belt...an IPA that is very bitter and a brown ale that is just about ready. I was thinking of doing an oatmeal stout next. Where did you get your ingredients from...and how did it turn out?

I just checked out the site and they look like great kettles too. Any advantages of the vertical or horizontal set up?

    New to Brewing

Welcome...this is an addictive hobby! I'm new too. I already bottled one and currently have another in my fermenter. This is a great place to learn from knowledgable homebrewers. I couldn't agree more...Read Palmer's book "How To Brew". I only wish I had read it before by first batch.

    Brew Kettle...Which to choose?

I've only been brewing since June and have two beers under my belt. When I started I bought a cheap ($12) 16 qt stainless steel kettle from Walmart. It served it's purpose. I wasn't sure how involved I was going to get with my new hobby, so I didn't want to go all out...yet! I love brewing beer...

What I did for beer today

Transferred my brown ale to a secondary fermenter this morning. First time attempting that. I usually just keep it in a primary for the duration. I added some saniclean sanitizer to the airlock and some of it spilled over into the carboy as I moved it. Will this harm the brew? I know this is a...

    Next Brew?

I like a lot of different types. IPA's, amber and brown ales, stouts, wheat beers. Malty, hoppy...as long as it has a nice flavor. I'm a big fan of Belgium beers.

    Next Brew?

I'm new to homebrewing...brewed my first batch in June. So far I brewed and bottled a Brewer's Best IPA and currently have Northern Brewer's Caribou Slobber brown ale in the fermenter. I'm just wondering what some good kits are, so I can get some ideas for my next concoction. Still keeping it...
