    Is secondary fermentation necessary?!

Thanks to you both for the quick response. I guess my KISS theory (Keep It Simple Stupid) is working well since I haven't gone to secondary fermentation yet.

    Is secondary fermentation necessary?!

I know that everything I've read says you should always move your beer to a carboy for secondary fermentation to get it off the yeast cake, etc. Does anyone recommend primary fermentation only?

    Too much yeast?!

I actually used White Labs English Ale Yeast (WLP002) initially but when I got nothing after 3 days I used the Munton's Premium Gold Ale Dry Yeast. I did not know that you had to wait as some of you have noted...everything I read said once you got 3 straight days of the same reading for F.G...

    Too much yeast?!

You say that 12 days is waaaayyy too soon to be bottling, but I got the same finishing gravity reading 3 days in a row...which I assumed meant that it was "done". Is that incorrect?

    Too much yeast?!

I am still fairly new to home brewing. I recently brewed a clone to Goose Island's Honkers Ale and when I added the Wyeast to the wort, it did nothing after 3 days. So I sprinkled some dry yeast on it. After 12 days it was done fermenting so I bottled it. It has only been 2 weeks but I...

HELP! Grommet from lid fell into fermenting beer

Thanks guys. After waiting (inpatiently!) for 2 weeks and then having this happen, I was bummed that I might have ruined this batch. I will take your advice next time and put the airlock on before putting the lid on the fermenter. Plus I got this extra lid at my local Home Brew shop and it...

HELP! Grommet from lid fell into fermenting beer

I am brewing my very first batch and two weeks into the fermentation process I was taking my first gravity reading tonight. I removed the lid, took the reading, replaced the lid and when I put the airlock back on the lid it pushed the black grommet through the lid and into the beer! Help...

Airlock stopped bubbling after 48 hours

Wow Revvy! All great information...sounds like you've been doing this awhile. Hopefully someday I'll be able to "pay it forward" to another new brewer like you've done for me. I'm going to sit back, relax, and wait a few weeks. I appreciate all the info!

Airlock stopped bubbling after 48 hours

Thanks so much for the quick response Revvy (and Tipsy Dragon) for the advice. I obviously need to buy some books and do some more reading because the information I've received so far makes it sound like the Airlock IS an indicator that fermentation is going on. I have no problem being...

Airlock stopped bubbling after 48 hours

I am brand new to home brewing and I'm brewing my very first batch of Amber Ale using Munton's dry yeast (cheap stuff). I had a lot of bubbling activity in the airlock in the first 24 hours -- which was exciting to see -- but now after 48 hours or so it is not bubbling at all. I waited about 5...

    Fermentation Location?!

If I've already had it fermenting a little over 24 hours in the closet at 70 degrees is it alright to move it to the basement now or will that mess up the yeast's work?!?

    Fermentation Location?!

Yes, I have it in the closet right now but I need to move it because it is making my suits for work smell like beer. I don't mind it, but my co-workers might not like it too much!

    Fermentation Location?!

The temp in my closet is about 70 degrees and the basement is around 58 degrees.

    Fermentation Location?!

I am brand new to home brewing (brewed my first batch yesterday!) and to this forum...I brewed an Amber Ale yesterday and I'm wondering where in my house is the best place to put the fermenting bucket. I'm afraid that my basement will be too cold (Chicago area in winter) and I'm afraid that my...
