Thanks, I'll try the oxy/bleach trick and hope it works.
I really don't want to use bags as I would like to just pour it out the spout that's already on the container itself.
I have access to about 20 of the coffee bins you see at grocery stores (the ones that hold the bulk coffee) for free.
My questions are:
Will the coffee smell affect the grain?
If so, is there a way to remove the smell from the plastic?
These would be great to hold a couple pounds of...
The alcohol % is usually alcohol by volume (ABV)
Try looking into some brew software like beersmith. You can input recipes into that am it will calculate the approximate outcome of various recipes. I believe they have a free trial you can use for 30 days, if memory serves.
If you do this make sure you adjust your hops. The first time I decided to do a full boil I didn't and instead of an amber I got a nice pail ale.
Ended up being pretty good though, so alls well that ends well I guess.
Brewed an apricot ale a couple days ago and took an OG reading.
I have to add a can of apricot purée in the next day or two, and I'm just wondering if there is a way to tell the total alcohol percentage when everything is bottled and kegged.
I don't think it should be a problem. The only worry I would have is that the airlock might get clogged during primary fermentation. But after four days it should be settling down.
Did you have a problem with the first airlock running dry? You could rig up a blow off tube set up with a three...
I brewed today and am wondering what the outcome will be.
Brewed an extract recipe that I have made before. It has a 3# LME addition at the begging of the boil. Bring back to a boil then add some hops.
The next step is a hop addition and 3 more pounds of LME added with 10 minutes left...
Another option is maybe try to find a friend that wants to brew also and split potential start up costs. My brother and I live a block away and decided we wanted to start brewing. We went straight for the top of the line stuff and had three batches brewing for $150.00 each.
If we split...
I set mine at 25 psi for about 36 hours, then down to serving pressure and wait one more day. I've had pretty good results with that.
I also have one regulator for two kegs. I have **** off valves for both kegs after the regulator and the other keg still has enough pressure to serve my beer...
I started using a blow off tube after having to clean some beer off my ceiling. I am fermenting in one carboy between three weeks to a month, then kegging/bottling.
There is some krausen (sp?) caked in the blow off tube. Do I need to change tubes or clean it at all? The tube is going into a...
